Day 1 -- Very Happy! Day 6 -- some sound quality issues
It took 3 days to port my number! Yay! I had a couple of snags in setting up my service. My credit card company blocked Magic Jack for fraud. There was no return message from the Magic Jack website when I tried to pay for porting my number ($23.79 w/ tax). The website kept returning me to the page for entering my card number. After the 3rd attempt, I used a different credit card. I called the credit card company and could find no evidence online that Magic Jack was hacked. The 2nd snag, which was my fault, I mistakenly connected the Magic Jack phone cable to the wall instead of the phone. Once I discovered my error, I had a dial tone. I tested the phone connection to and from using my cell phone. The outgoing voicemail message says I am a Magic Jack customer. I may keep this, it doesn't really bother me, but I can also change this. I made and received a call. The quality of the sound is even better than AT&T! I used the Magic Jack phone app to send a text; I'm waiting for a reply. Magic Jack even sent me an email to let me know my number was dialed; I didn't leave a message when I tested it using my cell but their email even contained a .wav file. I am impressed. It's only Day 1. I will give it a full 30 days. But, I am very, very happy so far. I am so looking forward to ditching my AT&T landline bill, my Pioneer long distance bill and saving $$ for minutes and texts on my Tracfone.Day 4 -- Used the Magic Jack app on my cell to make a call 2 days ago. I could hear clearly, however, the person I called could not hear me very well. Said there were popping sounds. Switched to my cordless phone. Same popping sounds. Turned on the computer. Big improvement. Sound quality was excellent. Received a call via the Magic Jack app (it has a different ring tone) yesterday. Again, popping sounds. Switched to cordless. No problem. The computer was already on when the call was made. I will try calls again with the computer off.Day 6 -- Sound quality continues to be excellent using the cordless. There are popping sounds using the Magic App app on the cell.Day 30+ -- Its been over 30 days. Magic Jack continues to be a fantastic service! A call came in on my cordless. My cell phone rang (because of the Magic Jack app). I took the cordless call on my cell! So convenient. It's like having 2 lines for the same number. The downside has been with AT&T. Because my landline was bundled with U-Verse, I lost the $10 credit for U-Verse. The monthly savings is only around $20/mo instead of $30/mo. However, because AT&T will be discontinuing landline service (starting next year in some states, they said) and because the landline bill continued to go up (due to fees), it's nice to have 2 fewer utility bills. The other utility bill that was discontinued was my long distance service with Pioneer. I now only have gas, electric and U-Verse bills to pay instead of 5. I only have to set aside $3 month for the annual renewal fee for Magic Jack. I'm happy.

I love magic jack.
Great product. Works great. Love the email voice message feature. Have 2 now. I got first one about 2 years ago. Device is $42 USD/yr (first year free) plus CAD number is $10 USD/yr = $52 USD/yr. For the CAD number, you select from a list of exchanges, in Manitoba I have one listed as a local Winnipeg number and the other listed as a local rural small town number. This is only a consideration for people calling you, whether it'll be long distance or local for them to call you. Otherwise all my outgoing calls are free, including rural local, Winnipeg, Canada wide and USA! If your rural, do an internet speed test, mine is 4.8M down and 0.3M up, which is ok, any slower and the audio gets choppy. People in the city on cable or fibre will likely have speeds way-way faster. For the set up, you need to plug the device into your desktop/laptop USB port, internet cable, and phone, to initialize things, then it asks you if you are going to use the device without a computer, say yes, then you don't need to be tethered to the computer anymore.
