Northern Light Technologies Flamingo 10,000 Lux Bright Light Therapy Floor Lamp, Black, 4 Foot

This is the 3rd light that I have owned that was built by this manufacturer, and I'm as happy with it as I have been with the other two. The first was a hand-held own from a friend, and I need to replace the light tubes on it, but the other two are going great guns. They improve my attitude and mood, give me really good light to work and read under, aren't uncomfortably hot and are otherwise just right for me. The base was damaged in shipment, so isn't as stable as it should be, but I didn't want to take the time to return or exchange it, but that's not the fault of the manufacturer or the product.

I love the design and function of this SAD lamp. I bought my first (same model) in 2010. It sits beautifully of the floor, is very sturdy, and I have used it positioned over my bed as well as over my favorite living room chair. I really feel this has helped me a lot with my Seasonal blues. I had read that the light should ideally come from above you, like the sun, so a tall floor lamp style was better for me than the kind that sits on a desk. After I moved house this past year, the section where the stem screws into the base broke off, but the light would have still been working, 100%. A handier person might have been able to repair it, but I was fine with buying a new one of these high quality, super bright, and effective lamps. The price has even dropped on this item since my first purchase! I feel very lucky and I really couldn’t recommend this particular model more!

I thought this light was very expensive but wanted a light that I could leave out so I would use it every day. It works very well and appears that it will last a long time. I like the light and feel better when I use it. I have even considered using it as a room light after I have sat close to it for a half to one hour. I feel disappointed when I turn the light off because the tone of regular winter light is not as warming or encouraging. The unit arrived with broken bulbs. I emailed and reported that night and had a reply the following morning. I was very relieved and impressed that they had already shipped a replacement unit which I received two days later. Then they issued a UPS call ticket to pick up the damaged unit as it was heavy and awkward and it was damaged. That was EXCELLENT customer service. I was so disappointed when it arrived broken but they more than made up for it. I could not have asked for anything more.

I have used light therapy for years to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder. I’ve used this lamp for about a month now. The light itself is excellent, as expected from Northern Lights technologies. The problem is getting it set up to the right distance from the eyes for 10,000 lux. That’s because the head of the lamp sits directly on top of the stand, rather than leaning out and over. I realize now that what I really wanted was a lamp that was actually adjustable, that could lean over my couch or chair to be above my eyes and the right distance. Too bad, this lamp had potential. I’ll keep trying to use it, but I worry that I’m getting full effectiveness due to having to sit at a farther distance than recommended for 10,000 lux.

Works as planned. Great for reading without eyestrain. Easy to rotate head.

The lamp is fine except it is missing a couple of plastic screws as shown. Given that it is such an expensive lamp it is surprising/disappointing that this is so little quality control that something like this goes un-noticed. There is no option except to return the whole lamp - which I don't have time to do. So I guess I am stuck with this, but be warned if you but this product. There is a obviously a massive mark up on the manufacturing costs and yet the company owners want to boost profits skimping on quality control, very disappointing.

I'm not entirely sure I have S.A.D. - I did have a very rough winter emotionally last year for no apparent reason, however, but more relevant is the fact that it's physically impossible for me to get out of bed in the morning when it's dark outside. It was starting to affect my job, so I asked my doctor about using a SAD lamp after reading online that you should seek medical advice before taking such a step. He specifically recommended this lamp, and the difference was instant and astounding. It completely reset my internal clock, and now I can get up at 5:30am without any issues whatsoever! The reset also has helped me get to bed at a decent hour, instead of 12 or 1 in the morning as I was doing before. And I definitely feel more tired and emotionally low if I don't use it on a given day, so if I did have S.A.D. it has fixed that as well. It's easy to assemble, though I do recommend you follow the instructions that come with it. The base is sturdy/heavy enough that I don't worry about my cats tipping it over. I use it as soon after I get out of bed as I can by sitting on my couch & placing the lamp to my left, with the light box angled down toward my face while I watch TV for 45 minutes (the length of time recommended by my doctor). It's about 24 inches away from me in this position, which is the max distance one should have such a light. The instruction manual states that people with sensitive skin or eye conditions should use caution, but I'm extremely prone to sunburn (I take a low dose of prednisone daily, and have for 16+ years) and haven't had an issue yet. But that's just me, so definitely check with your doctor. In short, this lamp has improved the quality of my life. Yes it's pricey, but I'm too wary of "imitators" & gladly spent more money on the product that my doctor recommended to me. And I'm so, SO glad I did.

What can I say about this light other then wow! It is massively bright! In my living room dining room i just turn this light on and face it at the ceiling and it lights the entire area as if its sunny outside. For the brief amount of winter i had with it, i would plug it in on my balcony around 5 when the sun was down and it was as if the sun was shining on my balcony, it was great, i cant wait to use it during the late night summer Its not quite as portable as i would like but also understand why. The base is heavy to offset the top half but its also wide which means I cannot stick it in my office while also pulling it out to out in the living room or balcony. The main purpose was for the office but quickly found it better in other areas of the house. As for energy levels, I didnt find it increased them or changed my sleep pattern but what it did change was happiness levels and irritibility. It greatly adjusted that which in turn makes it all worth while. Keep in mind, you shouldnt be using these lights before going to sleep or around bed time as it can influence your sleep pattern. I work nights so it made sense for me to get some sort of light at night. Take into consideration your own patterns and do whats best for you when taking into consideration how much light you are intaking. Great device, 5 out of 5 for sure, portability issue aside

I am recently thinking about buying a second light as raining seasons seems started already. This one has been in my home for 1 and half a year, and i like the feeling the light can turn the dark room into a sunny 🌞 and bright place in an instant. I only wish the manufacturer can have provide more choices, I like its simplicity and effectiveness, but wish it can be prettier. 😹

I suffer from severe major depression that always gets worse during the winter months so I invested in a light therapy lamp. This one was manufactured in Canada and had a unique structure I could position near my bed to use upon waking. It has definitely already helped within a week with my morning energy and I'm gradually no longer feeling wiped out and no longer needing a long nap in the afternoon. If I could make one suggestion it's that the upper structure that holds the ballast needs an adjustable 180 degree swivel joint that can be used to further increase or decrease the distance for lower positions. Other than that, this is a solidly constructed and effective Canadian made lamp.
