Impressive value
I brought these to replace my Sony NW-E394 that i had brought from argos which ended up dissapointing me as they weren't able to drive my audio technica M30. When I got the Hiby R3 gen 2 and plugged my headphones in they sounded great. nice full sound, plenty loud and reliable.I would highly recommend getting the Hiby R3 gen 2

Good player with a few teething problems
The player itself is small and extremely easy to place in a pocket. The shell is metal and made of a nice material, I have the red model and it looks excellent to me.The screen seems good enough quality, I have not had to increase the brightness too high to use this outside (although we have not had much bright sunlight lately). This player handles playback of my FLAC collection well. I have over 13000 tracks and it indexed them fairly quickly. I am not sure I like the way it works out tags, if you go by “Artist” you get all artists (including from various artist albums) and then it allows you to browse by the album. This is fine for some but of course any “various artist” albums will be scattered. If you use “Album artist”, it shows all tracks from the artist but no album view. Instead it shows all tracks? Weird.I have used this with headphones and via Bluetooth to a wireless speaker. For headphones, I have used single ended and balanced and it seems to drive a large variety of my headphones (HE-560, Oppo PM3, Denon 5200 and the ATH MSR7) with authority. There appears to be more than enough power for me. Via the Bluetooth, I could not get it to connect via anything but SBC, so I might need to experiment with different devices to see if this is common or down to the speaker. The unit battery life seems reasonable. I haven’t done a definitive test but the 12 hour battery claim seems reasonable. It also does not take too long to charge, which is a bonus. There other aspect in regards to this player I don’t like is the knob on the side for volume. I found the knob getting caught on my pocket as I took the player in and out. There is an option to disable the knob changing volume when the screen is off, which saved it for me. However, I do wish the knob had considerably more resistance.Another niggle I have is that the “gapless” functionality does not appear to work correctly for me. I get an audible “glitch” between tracks that I do not get when playing with other players in the past and on my PC.However, that all being said, I would still recommend this player. It’s a good price and has all the functionality I require for playing my music from a micro SD card.

Unable to stream. Defective Wifi and Bluetooth support.
I'm disappointed to say that despite its cute design and very good craftsmanship, I will be returning the device. In addition to the unremarkable sound quality, the main issue lies in its unreliable wireless performance. Attempting to stream over Wifi, which is restricted to the 2.4GHz band, or using Bluetooth is consistently frustrating unless you are within an impractical 2 feet range of your router or hotspot. This problem is specific to this product among the various wireless devices in my household, making it a significant letdown. Despite trying various troubleshooting methods, I have been unable to achieve smooth streaming from Tidal or utilize Bluetooth effectively. It's disheartening to witness such potential being hindered by a flawed wireless subsystem, which ultimately impacts the overall user experience negatively for an otherwise promising product. As a matter of fact, I can say with confidence that I achieved significantly better results by using a low-cost dongle DAC connected to my cellphone.

Streaming is not gapless
This device is really nice to use from an ergonomic point of view, it fits nicely in the hand and pocket, all the physical controls are on one side and easy to operate. The sound leans to the warm side and it seems powerful for it's size. Sound quality is good from the SD card and Qobuz or Tidal. LDAC Bluetooth sounds OK, but Bluetooth stability and range wasn't great. AirPlay sound quality is not as good as I expected, it does not play simultaneously with AirPlay 2 devices. I have some dongle DACs which I think sound clearer with IEMs, but the R3 II has enough power from the 4.4mm output to drive full size headphones. The software is a little clunky and old fashioned, especially the keyboard where you have to enter letters like on an old phone. The EQ has two interfaces, neither of which you can access when using it as a Bluetooth receiver, one normal graphic equaliser, and 'MSEB' which uses bizarre indecipherable terminology. I was impressed with the EQ function of the HiBy R6 III I briefly owned, but on the R3 II equalisation muddies the sound.Tidal and Qobuz do not allow downloading for offline listening, I knew this before purchasing. It is a major let down, in my opinion, that Qobuz and Tidal streaming is not gapless, nor is DLNA streaming from your own server, although it is gapless from internal storage. My rating drops one star for this, and another for the response of Hiby support, who were at first obtuse and then dismissive.I did consider returning the item, because using it for portable streaming was my intention, but I still think I will get some use out of it, if only as a wireless adapter for my headphones which is more powerful than the Bluetooth adapters I have already.

This little MP3 player is a great bargain.
This came with a 128 gig expansion card. I’ve ripped T least 7 albums and it’s not near full. It’s a voice recorder, as well as a radio. The size is a little smaller than a pack of cigarettes. Sure an audiophile shouldn’t buy it but just reading, listening it’s worth the few bucks it costs. Also there are no apps available just your music.

Overall, a good player with great sound.
This player has great sound. It's like a concert in your head, but I do have several quibbles with it. First, besides a quick start guide, there is very little info available about it's various settings and what they do available from the website and forums. Second, and more important for me is the equalization settings. Although the sound is great with equalization turned off, I like to add a little bit more bass to my music. The equalization setting has 6 or more preset settings plus a setting you can customize to your preferences. All of these settings seem to muddy the sound with no other real change to the music. One last thing to keep in mind is that this item has no internal memory. You need to have a micro SD card ready to install if you want to use it when it arrives.

Nice Unit
There is plenty of power to drive this dap, I really like the size and interface though the music sorting could use a bit of improvement. I mainly use the 4.4mm port with my hifyman Sundaras and it pushes them just fine. I use a 1tb card which is more than enough music for me.
