The Best Of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years

All original material from the capitol years. Linda Ronstadt at the edge of her glory days. The first 4 albums, Linda Ronstadt, Hand Sown,Home Grown. Silk Purse and Heart Like A Wheel. Superb collection and great value for money. If you're unsure of where to start with Linda Ronstadt, I would thoroughly recommend this set.

I have most of Linda's albums on vinyl which were great in their day. However I only had Heart Like A Wheel from this collection of 4 albums. They all sound great much better than I was expecting. Obviously I've now dug out my vinyls and they still sound pretty good too after all these years. You can't beat nostalgia!

Don't know what you can say about linda that has not been said and as for this double album i could say it is the best she has been but the problem is when I play another of her albums i think the same of that one but you will not go wrong if you buy this I have a real problem trying to work out whether I prefer Linda to emmylou and I have got to say i am at a total loss on that one but I am not at a loss when I say buy this or regret it later it won't be around for ever

1970's Linda Ronstadt - wow. Up there with the tennis girl's bum poster as a young boys comforter! And the girl could sing. I came to this as a fan of the LA mafia sound of the 70's, and wanted to hear what the Eagles sounded like as her backing band. I am not disappointed. Over the course of these albums if you listen in chronological order, you can see how Linda was groomed for super stardom. The next 10 years worth of albums were the ones that sealed the deal, and crop up on the best of's, of the LA sound. For a young lad, Linda was also a bit too free with her affections(like Stevie Nicks)with the other names on the LA scene.You'd always see young lads of a certain age pawing over the LP racks for the latest Ronstadt album just for the cover shots - rarely did she disappoint. These CD's show how she evolved from a girl who looked good that could also sing a bit, to a great singer who just happened to have the looks to match.

Great collection - excellent value. I had forgotten what a fine artist Linda was. I would recommend purchasing this collection especially if you have enjoyed good times in the seventies.

This is a must for Linda Ronstadt fans. It's got a lot of the old favourites as well as some songs I haven't heard. A very good buy. Well-produced too.

当方もう55歳も過ぎましたが、高校時代からアイドル的に好きでした。アサイラム以前のキャピトル時代の物もコレクションしましたが、これは良い。初期のものが網羅されており、オマケで「ロングロングタイム」のライブバージョン等も聴けます。ファンにはたまりません。

The title of the CD is very confusing. I wasn't going to order it because I'm not a big fan of "compilations". To me it's like radio... somebody else deciding for me what to listen to. I like to have the albums, listen to the whole thing and decide for myself what I like the most out of it.Anyways, by chance I discovered this is NOT a "best of" compilation, but 4 FULL ALBUMS plus bonus tracks, all in a 2 CD set. So I bought it and it's great ! What a talented singer !Some may notice an album missing in the chronological order, which is "Don't cry now", that came out between "Linda Ronstadt" and "Heart like a wheel"... but the reason for that album to be missing here is because it came out on the ASYLUM label. Yes, at a point she was recording for two different labels at the same time. After "Don't cry now", she fulfilled her last CAPITOL record with "Heart like a wheel", and then she was just with ASYLUM for the next few years.This package also contains a very nicely illustrated booklet with liner notes detailing the historical notes on her career in the late sixties and early seventies, plus a few photographs that reinforce my theory that during those years Linda Ronstadt was the most beautiful woman on the planet.The only minor complaint about the booklet is the lack of technical information (where the albums were recorded and who played on them).This CD set is definitely for a "true fan".Those casual ones, do not get confuse with the title, it is not a "best of" in the "greatest hits" sense of the word... even though I'm sure this set will turn you into a "true fan" anyways.

This 2-disc set of Linda's early years is a prime catch for any of her fans, and one for all who are not fans but have a passing interest in her music. She shows herself to be a diva even from her "Hand Sown Home Grown" album, with some basic country-rock songs that include "We Need A Whole Lot More Jesus (and a lot less rock and roll)", "Baby You've Been On My Mind" and "The Long Way Around". With each successive album here, you can hear the increasing refinement and expressiveness of Linda's singing voice, along with her skill in interpreting the music which she has recorded on these albums. There are extra added bonus songs in this collection. Three of them were performed by Linda when she was making music with the pre-Eagles Glen Frey, Randy Meisner, Bernie Leadon and (if I understand correctly) Don Henley. These songs are some of the best she ever did (imho). My personal favorite of all the albums presented here is, in fact, "Linda Ronstadt" (the one with "Rock Me On The Water", "I Fall To Pieces" and "Birds" by Neil Young). If you enjoy Linda's music, definitely buy this. If you don't know Linda's early work and are maybe curious, buy this. If you want to explore the developement of country-rock from Southern California in the early 70's, buy this. Or if you want to be blown away by one of the best women in rock-and0roll history, buy this.
