Re-enjoy this CD at the disco!
The Rewind CD is a collection of older Amr Diab songs remixed to give them a more contemporary pop-house feel. The reworkings work best when they include elements of the Oriental (read: Middle Eastern)instrumentation, giving the CD a very contemporary Arabic pop feel, perfect for Amr Diab fans around the globe. The CD opens with the first track "Habibi" (not another version of "Nour El Ain" thankfully, but an older song that is given a surprisingly effective Latin disco-house makeover in a similar vein as Alabina's "Loli, Lolita, Lola" with a feet-moving beat). Every other track seems to be a hit on this CD: "Al Madi" is a catchy Oriental pop number similar to "Wala Ala Balah" from the last CD, again combining Western pop sensibilities with that euphoric Egyptian percussion. "Rajeen" continues the trend and is perhaps the most Oriental-sounding song on the album, showcasing Amr Diab's powerful vocal range; at some point you can almost hear the native instruments rising above the housey remix, similar in feel to Mustafa Sandal's "Aya Benzer." "Weyoulomouni" is the perfect Arabic technopop record--it would sound equally at home in a club in London as well as one in Beirut. The album closes with a radio edit of one of the weaker tracks, "Malhash Hal," why I don't know, especially when they could have included an alternate mix for one of the stronger songs like "Rajeen," for example.
