has anyone used this with flake food?

Hello, Flakes can be used too, for sure. Also, when needed, it can be replaced with a "window" with a larger opening. Adjust the amount of food before installing the appliance on the aquarium. How many days can you program this for?

It can be programmed for as long as you want. You have to put food into the machine. It will hold about a month’s worth of food - it all depends on how many fish you have in the tank of course. You set the tiny door opening if you want a lot of food or just a little amount. And how many times to drop food throughout the day or you can do just once daily. Takes some practice though to get it just right before you leave on a vacation.

Does this work with a covered aquarium?

You will need to have an opening in the top of the aquarium as this drops food from the top into the tank. We have two covers, large and small, covering the top of the tank. We moved the small cover over a bit to allow the feeder to drop food into the tank. Not a big deal, but does cause a bit of evaporation of water from the tank. However, if you can figure out the mounting and create an opening for the food, it works great.

Can it be set to go off once every 3 days?

Thanks for your question, It is not possible to switch off the device once every 3 days. What you can do: 1. Schedule feeding every day 1-3 times. (When each feeding can be set the number of rounds of the barrel - up to 3 = a total of up to 9 rounds of feedings per day) 2. You can, once every three days, close the "window". I leave the ease of setup! I didn't even have to read the manual. 5 minutes after opening the package I had it programmed, attached to my tank, and filled with food. I've had it about 6 months and have had 0 issues. Easy to adjust feeding amounts. I fill mine with a mix of flake and pellets. You can set to feed 3 times a day and up to 3 rotations each feeding...that's a LOT of food. I have 15 marine fish in my saltwater aquarium and I only feed them twice a day with 1 rotation each feeding...if I ever start another fish tank I will definitely buy another one of these!

It does what it's supposed to do and so my fish don't starve. It's a pretty nifty tool, super easy to setup, and one touch or automated operation. One downside is though it's advertised as for "Small Tank, Big Aquariums & Pond", the makers don't seem understand the concept of rain. So when it rains the fish food becomes a nasty smelling cake inside the feeder and you need to clean it after. Overall I recommend the product unless you live in Seattle, which I don't.

This automatic fish feeder works EXACTLY as described! It runs on batteries and is super easy to set up. I’ve had mine running since August 1st, 2025, it’s now October 21st, and it’s been perfect, haven’t even had to change the batteries yet. We originally bought it for vacation, and it was an absolute lifesaver — no need to hire someone to come feed the fish twice a day. Highly recommend!
