The Project A Collection

Another astonishing 88 Films release!
88 Films is at it again with another astonishing release here, and I feel eternally grateful for them to continue the extremely difficult task of doing their part in keeping physical media alive. So many of the films they're working unbelievably hard to put together these magnificent releases for might not get proper ones otherwise. For this release in particular, we have both PROJECT A movies featuring pristine new 4K restorations, looking and sounding better than I would have ever thought possible. I understand that the last 26 seconds of audio cuts out on one of the multiple audio tracks at the end of the 4K disc (not the Blu) of PROJECT A 2, but you know what's crazy? I'm a crazy film buff and didn't even notice this when watching the movie, so take that as you will. It in no way diminishes how epic this set is otherwise. The always-mind-blowing original artwork by Kung Fu Bob, the fantastic presentations, plentiful special features, non-disc swag included with the deluxe edition (a book, poster, lobby cards, all inside a wonderfully designed slipcase), and, of course, the classic Jackie Chan films themselves each on Blu-ray - it doesn't get much better than this, and I proudly have this (and dozens of other 88 releases) in my collection. Do yourself a favor and support this wonderful company and all of their endless hard work and effort to bring these beloved films to our homes.I'm not one to usually do this, but I couldn't help but notice the 2-star review from someone else on here - that admits to not having even bought the set, yet is leaving a product review for it - that I found particularly baffling stating they couldn't justify the $75 price tag. That would be the list price, as this set at the time of writing is only $45 here on Amazon, which is a pretty incredible deal. Please note that many other companies sell a single 4K/Blu-ray for not much less than this, whereas here there's two movies/Blu-rays. As much as I love companies such as Criterion and Arrow, the average list price of a Blu-ray movie from either of them is $40, and that's for a SINGLE film. So it's an odd complaint for a set such as this, but I digress.Support this release, as many of us already are, so we can continue to get top notch physical media releases such as this from companies that care to preserve the things we all love so much.

Great movies, great copmany releasing, just really expensive. No limited ed for BD
edit: dropping another star due to lack of booklet poster and lobby cards. there are only available in the 4K set. 88 I used to love you! How can you treat us like this????Nice to see the Taiwanese cut is included but I just can't justify the $75 price tag, hopefully it drops to something reasonable soon. These movies are great, I'm sure this release is worthwhile, just don't know why it's so expensive. I'd probably be more excited if I didn't already have the Region B release.

IT'S AWESOME!
The remastered video on these is the best they've ever looked! Gone are the wonky blue-tinged daytime scenes and all the scratches and blemishes from past releases, leaving only pristine-quality images. Plus, the first film has the extended Taiwanese cut, which includes action footage missing from all previous releases. More of Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao going head to head! Both films have multiple language tracks including their original theatrical audio, new fancy Dolby Atmos, and the English dubs. If that were all I'd have been beyond content- gorgeous presentations of both films- but it's only the tip of the iceberg with this set. There are tons of special features, including a "making of", interviews (both new and legacy), audio commentaries, and a treasure trove of outtakes, trailers, still galleries, and newly produced featurettes! As Project A/Jackie Chan/Sammo Hung/Yuen Biao fans you couldn't ask for more. This killer set is housed in a thick slipcover box with beautiful artwork by Kung Fu Bob, and each film has their own case with double-sided sleeves featuring new KFB art for the movies on one side and the Hong Kong theatrical posters on the other. I've been a fan of Hong Kong cinema for over 30 years and have a huge collection, and this is EASILY the best Jackie Chan physical release of all time.
