Barefaced Lies and Boogie-Woogie Boasts

This autobiogrpahy of a very English and in fact very London boy and man is a terrific rollicking good read, laugh out loud funny at times, (I embarrassed myself several times on my crowded commuter train into town). A very gentle look at a harsh world. Jools showed it is possible to be successful in a competitive world without being unpleasant about people.

Having watched "Sunday Night" and "Night Music", I've been a fan of Jools Holland from the start. Loved the book with it's fantastic wit. Jools cracks me up and I so much enjoy reading of his life's experiences. I only wish more Americans would "get It". As a memoir, this will not give you any great revalations. There are no skeletons in the closet and little to offend anyone. What keeps this book moving, is Jools' delivery which is real tongue-in-cheek. Not hilariously funny but will have you chuckling with each chapter. A light read, filled with music and dry wit. Only interesting if you want to know a little about Jools himself, who comes across as warm, engaging and has music running through his veins. I enjoyed it.

This book is such an upbeat piece of work. Describing a variety of musical experiences, Jools Holland draws the reader in with his pure love of music and his sense of humor. A must read for any music lover.

Massive fan of Jools and his big band (less so of the Squeeze era). The nbbok is easy to read and follow, not particularly insightful in terms of musical direction and choices. Personally I found the biography a bit bland.

Jools has a good way with words and the Tube era with Paula Yates was of particular interest to me. He's obviously met some brilliant musicians and celebrities and this book is full of them, there's very little dirt or scandal though as Jools is obviously too nice to spill the beans on anyone which makes you like him all the more really. He's funny, witty and humble and charmingly enthusiastic about his fellow musicians. This book is a great read that you don't have to think too much about.

Jools at his best, informative, engaging, sublime read. What a fascinating rip-roaring life he's had, I'm so jealous, and still creating great music. Long live later with Jools.

I really liked this book. Jools offers a great insight into the music industry both good; bad, warts and all. He humbly admits his shortcomings whilst also giving the benefit of his vast musical experience and useful hot tips to budding musicians.

This book sucked me into a world I had forgotten then treated me to layer upon layer of love for music and people who make life special. Now I have no choice but to seek out the music mentioned in this life journey. Thank you Jools.

An interesting insight into the life and influences that have made Jools the character he is today.Possibly rather more name-dropping than I would have liked but then he has worked with so many famous musicians both here and in America so references to them are generally relevant.Some autobiographies are quite tedious to read. This one isn't. It's a "warts and all" book so we can all relate to the experiences described.

Bought as a present for a friend and fan of Jools Holland. The book was an interesting read I'm told.

Jools certainly has had a varied life. Maybe too much on Squeeze and not enough about his superb rhythm and blues orchestra.Great stories about the drummer legend Gilson Lavis.

Wonderful tracks from the jazz piano and boogie woogie maestro.

Excellent honest story of his rise to fame and fortune from humble beginnings. Written with humour and many musical and place references to which anyone of his age group or an interest in music can relate.

Lots of name dropping here but a fabulous read. He comes across as a musician first and foremost. The rewards are welcome but its the music that matters. Having seen the rhythm and blues orchestra a couple of times, and now read his book, I'm sure that the music is his passion.

Understatedly brilliant, just like the man himself.From first to last there are anecdotes, laughs and tears but running through the whole tome is the melodic love of a great tune.

Even if you don't like jools holland, this book takes you on a tour behind the scenes of many well known celebrities and the jet set lifestyle associated with touring and TV contracts. I found it very enjoyable and hard to put down.

A really excellent 'read', full of musical facts, faces, trivia and the triumphs of this magical musician. So amusing I laughed out loud, and so truly in 'Jools-speak' I could hear him reading it to me... definitely 5-star.

I bought this book as a Christmas present. It arrived in plenty time and was well received. It you like Jools Holland it's a good story
