One of the most popular plastics used in 3D printing today, PLA filament is a biodegradable thermoplastic suitable for a wide range of three dimensional printing applications. Made from renewable resources such as corn, wheat and potato starch, this innovative 3D printing material is kinder on the environment than petroleum based filaments. As it is one of the easiest plastics to work with, it is ideal for those starting out with their first 3D printer. Due to its eco-friendliness, PLA is widely recommended as the default filament for most desktop 3D printers. Virtually odourless when heated, (with a slightly sweet smell, like popcorn), so you can print in-house with no unpleasant aroma. PLA Filament has a long list of positive features including strength, durability, and a lower extruder temperature threshold of 170-200°C. Once extruded, PLA can be sanded, glued, and painted with acrylic paints, so it remains the number #1 choice for designers, engineers, and architects who print more complex 3D structures where a smoother, shinier, more polished appearance is required. As an organic material, PLA filament takes slightly longer to cool than the ABS alternatives, and so you may find a fan useful in speeding up the cooling process. However, once cooled, this three dimensional printing plastic is completely rigid and less prone to warping than many of the alternatives, so you can print without a heated print bed. Available in 1.75mm and 3.00mm options, and a variety of different lengths (5m, 10m, 20m & 1kg net spool) this environmentally friendly PLA filament is a great investment for all modern 3D printers. Available in over 30 colours including: Black, Blue, Bronze, Brown, Burlywood, Chocolate, Coffee, Cyan, Dark Orange, Gold, Golden Yellow, Green, Grey, Khaki, Light Green, Lime, Magenta, Maroon, Natural, Navy, Olive, Orange, Orchid, Pearl White, Pink, Purple, Red, Royal Blue, Silver, Sky Blue, Tan, Transparent, Violet, et al.
