Clancy marks Twenty One Pilots’ first studio album in three years and follows their RIAA Gold certified LP, Scaled And Icy. With details of the release teased to fans via cryptic mailings and covert artswaps on streaming services, “Overcompensate” welcomes listeners back to the band’s immersive world of ‘Trench.’ Layers of synths build over a racing breakbeat in the song - a skilled passage of alternative dynamics, flexing in time, and ready to explode. Having amassed over 33 billion streams worldwide and over 3 million tickets sold across global headline tours, the Columbus, OH based duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have established themselves as one of the most successful bands of the 21st century and redefined the sound of a generation. Co-produced by Joseph and Paul Meany, Clancy marks the final chapter in an ambitious multi-album narrative first introduced in the band's 2015 multi-Platinum breakthrough, Blurryface. Furthermore, Clancy’s release on May 17th coincides with the 9th anniversary of Blurryface, which was released exactly nine years prior to the day. Twenty One Pilots extended the ambitious concept laid out in Blurryface with their 2018 Platinum-certified album TRENCH. Featuring the multi-Platinum and Platinum singles “Chlorine,” “My Blood” and the GRAMMY® Award-nominated “Jumpsuit,” the album graced spots on “Best of” year-end lists by Billboard, KERRANG!, Alternative Press, and Rock Sound—who placed it at #1. Another Solid Album?
Long time TOP fan here. I will start off with mentioning that Vessel is my favorite album followed CLOSELY by Trench, then Blurryface and SAI. This album is hard to rate right now, since it literally just dropped. I will need to listen multiple times. I will say that I was expecting something....a little different than this so far. Don't get me wrong, I love Overcompensate and all the other singles so far, but I was hoping for more lore I guess. Only 2 songs in this whole album are lore related, which is odd. Maybe their unreleased music video that drops in June will give some answers as to whether the Clancy story is over or not. Honestly, something feels off for me with this album...I wanted more bass, heavier sounds, more rap and instead got lots of uke, more pop, slower lyrics, hardly any piano. I'm not sure what it is yet. AGAIN, this IS NOT A MISS. Each song is good in it's own way. The Craving, Backslide, and Next Semester all had to grow on me after a few listens and now I love of those songs. I enjoy The Craving Single Version more than Jenna's Version, but her version is beautiful too. Tyler and Josh, you guys are so creative, talented, wholesome, funny guys and we love you so much....even Mark and his cats. I watched the Livestream last night and couldn't stop smiling. This is a really good album, if I had to put it in my ranking from best album to least best, Clancy would rate least best for me. I'm still putting 5 stars because it's not a bad album by any means, I just like the feel, sound and lyrics of the other albums better. Update: Clancy is really good. I have been listening on repeat now. Favorites are Routines in the Night, Vignette, At the Risk of Feeling Dumb, Midwest Indigo.....okay I love them all. My least favorite song is probably Navigating and Paladin Strait. They are still good songs, just not my favs. Love the album, excited to see what the future holds for the boys.

Absolute 10/10, not just the album but the design of the box and the care that went into the art itself, definitely one of my favorite TØP albums

This is album is quite frankly, a work of toil and art. Each song is carefully curated to continue the story of mental health struggles and the attempt to escape DEMA and really resonated with. It's as if all other albums combined to create this with some upbeat bangers to the slower, more personal ones. Amazing album and one for the The Few, The Proud and The Emotional
