There were several OLD CROW airplanes. Others flew them and were shot down.
I was fortunate enough to meet Bud Anderson’s son, Jim on a river cruise in France and Germany this past May. I had read about the man who flew THE OLD CROW. Only to find his son also was a fighter pilot, F4’s. Graduation from Air Force Academy in Colorado. 20 years in the service and then flew for Southwest Airlines for about the same amount of years. I was so very lucky to spend a few hours speaking with him and his his best friend Ron, also an Air Force pilot F15’s and Academy graduate. What an interesting pair they are.

A well written page turner. This guy is a *somebody*.
Although this book has a different feel to it than the book to which it will invariably be compared, namely Chuck Yeager's "YEAGER" autobiography, I must say it stands on its own feet without any apologies. In this book, Anderson details a life full of accomplishments and adventure. The chapters that focus on his World War II exploits are clearly the most interesting, although his post-war adventures (including missions in Vietnam) were entertaining in their own right. My only complaint is that he did not write more about this period of his life. It seemed that Yeager's book was a bit more balanced in that he covered his career from beginning to end with an even hand. Anderson (or his publisher) chose not to do so, and that is unfortunate, for I am sure there is much to be learned from this period of his remarkable life. Despite these minor shortcomings, this one is definitely worth a look. The beginning may be slow to some, but keep going. It is well worth it.

Book review; "To Fly and Fight: Memoir of a Triple Ace . . .
Excellent book. Colonel Anderson's accounts of his boyhood in California, his budding interest in flight and his experiences in training and combat as well as his recollections of his family, friends and comrades in arms made this a wonderful book to read. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Great Seller, Perfect Book
LOL, the listing said "like new". I couldn't see what the difference between this sellers description of "like new" an pristine! Packaged with care and the book was sealed in an internal bag for that final layer of protection.

Fascinating book by the real deal
This is a fascinating read by a fascinating man. What a life he had. He loved flying and was so good at it his plane was never hit. He died at age 102. This is a can’t put it down book. Treat yourself and enjoy.

Best aviation biography
It was a pleasure reading this book - couldn’t put it down. I’ve never met Bud Anderson but he comes across as a superb professional and a man of honor, integrity, and humility (especially for a fighter pilot). This book has just the right mix of flying, technical, and personal stories. I’ve read many aviation books by Yeager, Hoover, Crossfield and others. This is certainly among the best, if not the best. I’ve been a pilot for nearly 40 years, a engineering test pilot and airline pilot. This book held my interest.Thank you Bud Anderson for sharing your story.

Essential reading
Superb book I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in aviation or history in general. Very well written and detailed account from a legendary pilot and gentleman on his training, combat experiences. A great insight into the operations of 357th FG and 8th USAAF

Could not put it down!
This book has it from both sides, the pilot and those around the pilot, all the way from schoolboy dreams through war and afterwards. There are just enough stories, flying and non-flying, to keep you going. Much appreciated were the technical references to things as mundane as Mustang trim wheels which help paint a different picture than what most books and movies portray. (I constantly adjust my trim in flight). Modesty is something that many lack, but Col. Anderson has tons of it; very refreshing.

Great story of a remarkable pilot.
This is a well written memoir of a remarkably humble hero. His recollections of the early days in particular are poignant and paint a great picture of what WW2 really looked like to a young kid who couldn't believe his luck.
