Attractive and functional
Really nice looking Pestle and Mortar. Good weight and functional. The only downside is occasionally the ceramic does pick up dark marks from abrasion against the other ceramic, which don't seem possible to remove.

Lovely pestle and mortar set.
Good size, good weight, best one out there. The ceramic has a fine tooth to it that helps with grinding spices.Cleans well with no staining.

Excellent Mortar & Pestle Proves Itself In Daily Use
Beautiful Milton Brook Range Unglazed Mortar & Pestle are very lovely, heavy, practical items for the kitchen. This beats using a food processor for just small things; a few peppercorns, mashing garlic, or ginger, or bruising herbs for a vinaigrette. This sits proudly on my counter, next to the stove; and I use it daily. It washes up like a breeze, and does not retain any odors of the foods I have processed in it. That was an initial concern, but so far, I have had no issues in cleaning this out and washing up. I would imagine that if one were to process something and perhaps let it sit, such as garlic, one could rinse it out, then put baking soda in, let it sit, then do a thorough wash-up. That s only theoretical, of course, in a hypothetical situation. I say buy with confidence! It is a lovely and practical piece that has earned a place in my kitchen!

A first-class mortar & pestle
Wonderful contraption. It is very heavy, and therefore stable. However, put it on top of a towel to prevent it from scratching your surfaces if it moves. The 6.5-inch size is very versatile, perfect for most jobs for which you should need a mortar and pestle. It is small enough to be handy and portable-- capable of grinding a few peppercorns or preparing a bit of vinaigrette-- but capacious enough to hold pesto for several guests. Mortaring and pestleing can be hard work depending on one's constitution; however, I do enjoy the work and have not found need for one of those "food processors" popular amongst the housewives of to-day.

Lesser quality, now made in Vietnam. This is not the traditional English model one expects.
Beware: this item is made in Vietnam rather than the UK as implied and therefore is not the same as older models. I have used this brand of mortar and pestle for years and have several sizes. When the pestle on my “Number 4” size broke I ordered this one to have a replacement. Nothing about this model is the same - not the ceramic, the wood, the size of either part or the shape of the mortar. This pestle is much larger than older 4 models, as is the mortar. The new shape does not nest neatly other mortars by the same firm (previous mortars fit neatly into one another). In short another product has been outsourced and is no longer the high quality traditional piece I was expecting. It is very sad that yet another longtime maker of a highly revered product has made serious changes. At the least the listing should clearly state “Made in Vietnam” so as not to mislead people.

beautiful product
This product is a genuine Wade product and is beautifully made. I have given it four stars because I thought it was made in the U.K., but its place of manufacture and raw materials (Vietnam) were not evident from the listing until it arrived.
