This was a gift for my nephew and he absolutely loved the sea creatures. If your child is big into deep sea creatures then I would highly recommend buying. He enjoyed this product.

This was a cool set of toy figurines, for having some of the more obscure (and less "cute") ocean animals, like eels and a trilobite. The toys are detailed in the molded shapes, but without the same amount of detail in the painting. Most of them just have painted eyes. The plastic is semi-firm--it can be bent a little, but is not squishy, and not so hard that it would break if you drop one of these animals. You get seven small animals in the tube, each about 2 inches long. This would make a great gift for young, elementary-school-aged fans of weird animals, or aspiring oceanographers.

OK, so, I'm a marine biologist by training, so I'm a fan of just about everything about the ocean.There are LOTS of sets of ocean animals out there...many of which include sharks, whales, dolphins, etc.. But, this is the first set of deep sea animals that I've seen, so of course I requested these to review!This is a set of deep sea - mesopelagic and bathybenthic animals.While I find these extremely interesting, let's face it, most kids probably aren't going to play mesopelagic ecological games. Still, of you have a child or friend who loves the sea, this might be a great set for them.As you can see from the photo, each of these plastic animals are a few inches long. The colors of them represent what they look like in real life.FYI, the real life lengths of these animals are as follows:Hatchet fish 2.5”Viperfish 12-24”Gulper eel 36”Glass squid 4-5”Deepsea anglerfish 12-36”Dragonfish 6”Giant isopod 16”Of these, the only ones that will sit upright are the isopod (of course) and the anglerfish (if you're lucky). The rest will only lie in their sides.OK, what else? The set includes a sheet showing these animals and others available in these kinds of sets. I had to take the sheet of paper out and hunt for the animals in this set...not as obvious as it should have been. My preference would have been to include a sheet for only the animals in this set, and one that has a web address or UPC code where you can go to learn more about them would have been a nice touch,.One more thing, it's not easy to open the plastic case unless you do it the right way. If you look at the last photo, it shows the clasp that holds the case closed, pull up on the tab circled in that photo and it should open easily.Most of these are not well-known animals, which I find a lot more interesting than the usual iconic ones in sets like these. For that reason alone, I give this set 5 stars.

Decent figurines for my little boy to play with. Not exactly the most realistic looking figurines, but my boy enjoys playing with it.

These look and feel similar to the safari Ltd figurines, but at a comparatively better price point, which is great. I am liking forward to use these in our ocean studies this year.

I don't know about you but these creatures are simply hideous! Now, that isn't to say this isn't a good purchase. The fact that they're hideous and realistic portrayals of prehistoric sea animals are exactly what makes them great! Still, we don't really see animals that look like this nowadays. After you've played with these for awhile, you might be hesitant to go back in the water! Still, they're lots of fun and will thrill your little ones at the same time as they creep them out!

This representative collection of deep sea denizens is well molded and nicely painted. I liked the variety to the set, and it’s probably as representative as you could expect considering the amazing variety of creatures lurking our ocean depths. I really like that it includes a small reusable storage container rather than just arriving in a sealed plastic bag. I teach university Oceanography and can recommend this nice little set. You get your money’s worth!
