For Folks That Are Serious About Tiling A Shower
I've got a mobile home that was built in the early 70ies. It was waterproofed with fiberglass from top to bottom. Besides waterproofing the enclosure it gave the thinset something to adhere to. Regardless, the tile is not what kept the water from damaging the wood surround. It was the membrane. If you want a shower that will never leak you need to first understand that the tile is just a decoration. What protects the enclosure is the waterproofing. This membrane is part of that process. With this product, a solid constructed enclosure, and good thinset skills you will most likely never see things like moldy grout that won't whiten or grout lines that crack. I did a number of bathrooms in my home and while its only been a decade I have no failures in the job. I recommend an old school book that taught me how to do it right. Tile Your World by John Bridge. It sells new for 40.00 but there are library copies for sale at around 10.00. Best of luck.
