Dorel Living Kitchen Island, White

This was pretty easy to assemble. We put on a movie in the living room while I put it together. While assembly wasn't particularly difficult, It would have been nice for the manufacturer to order the parts in the box so we could grab the next part out of the box as we got to the relevant step in assembly. All of the hardware was included in a sheet, but again, the hardware did not come out of the blister pack in the order they were placed. The drawer opens decently, but I plan to replace the slide with a ball bearing one so I can store my spices within. The wheels do turn smoothly and I don't have any concern about their sturdiness.The biggest annoyance was this: there was a large warning sticker on top of the butcher block, stating what could not be placed on the surface. It was ugly and we wanted it off. While the sticker did remove in one piece, it left behind a residue where we pulled too fast. To remove the residue, a melamine sponge got it off in a jiffy.

If you are looking for a high-end kitchen island, this isn't it, but at the price point it is a fantastic value. We were all set to buy something similar locally for $30 more that was not nearly as well built. Fortunately for us, it was out of stock, so we shopped and found this one. It arrived completely flat in a box heavy enough to need two persons to move. Unpacking all the parts was tedious, but everything arrived in great shape. Assembly was aided by well written instructions in clear North American English with a second book for Spanish. My only complaint is the Cam Locks that are made from cast white metal, not steel or brass like other furniture I have built. I broke one by over-tightening expecting a click like others I have used. That, and one small screw block that split requiring a bit of glue were the only assembly issues, and not enough to deduct a star. I wanted to be sure the island was sturdy, so I added white glue at all the points where wood dowels are used in assembly. This is not required or even mentioned in the instructions. The top is real wood and the majority of the other wood parts are engineerd wood, NOT press board. We are very happy with this good looking addition to our kitchen.

This piece arrived intact and well-packaged. The hardware was clearly marked. It took two of us under two hours to unpack it carefully, access and organize the hardware and put it together. The directions were extraordinarily clear and came with good pictures. I have put together a lot of furniture and other items (including a large floor loom) and these were the best directions I have ever seen. The casters are sturdy, but do take a while to attach. I would have used a battery powered screwdriver for them, but I was concerned about perhaps splitting the wood, if I wasn't careful. I didn't have any trouble removing the labels on the top and the glue came off with a little bit of dish detergent. The drawer and the doors are functional. I am a little concerned that the doors might not stay shut, but they seem to be doing fine for now. The biggest drawbacks are that the drawer is shallow and shouldn't hold more than 10 lbs., according to the manufacturer. I am not sure it would hold even that much weight. And the shelf and bottom panel of the unit can only hold up to 15 lbs. each. I would be hesitant about approaching that weight limit, too. Thus, this piece's usefulness, isn't quite what I had hoped, e.g., I can't store my cast iron dutch oven in the unit. Even so, this is a useful and nice looking unit for lighter items. And the quality is fine for the price.

I recommend investing in a power drill to cut your time down tremendously! I’m a 41 year old woman from NYC and was able to put this together by myself in abt 2hrs. Without a drill I would say you’re looking at 3hrs minimum time assembling. It’s sturdy! Looks GOOD! Wheels are efficient (they actually move and don’t get stuck) the wood/cutting board on top is SO DOPE! Mine is more for storage/space than an actual cutting board but once I’m ready to use it I can/will. I’m glad I bought this and it matches my kitchen cabinets to the T! Storage is excellent in the bottom cabinets. You can rack up your big pots on the bottom shelf then add their matching tops on the smaller shelf up top! Drawer is wide, a lot of depth and spacious. No rack for it to slide in and out of so I would recommend keeping light things up there so it won’t be so heavy to pull open. Good, satisfying buy! ✊🏾

I love this piece sooo much! I searched for a long time before I chose this cart. It fits perfectly into my very tiny kitchen. The only thing negative is that it was missing a major piece, so I had to wait to put it together. I called the manufacturer and they took care of it very quickly. Within a few hours I received an email that the part was packed and ready for shipment.Putting it together was not that difficult for me to do myself and I am 81yrs young.I’m thrilled with this purchase!!!

I did alot of research before purchasing this island. It is the perfect size for my limited kitchen space. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to put together. No crying or choice words were used! It is very sturdy and I love the butcher block top! I feel I got my money's worth for this unit!

I love this. It was easy to assemble because directions were good and in order. I am a 79year old woman and did it myself. It looks great and gives me extra counter space in a small kitchen. I put storage containers inside which frees up a shelf for heavy items in my cupboard. The drawer is not sturdy enough for heavy silverware, so I place light items inside. Great addition to my kitchen.
