J. Shoes Men's Monarch Lace-up Boot

This is a great-looking chukka and relatively comfortable. It runs slightly large, I generally wear 10.5-11 US, and 10.5 was fine. Unfortunately, the soles are cheaply constructed. The sole on one of mine started coming apart after 6 months of relatively light wear in a dry climate. I took it to the local shoe repairman who pointed out that the inner layer was cardboard, so gluing wouldn't last long. He stitched the sole together and it's been okay, but it does squeak a little now. I would never pay full price for a pair of these. I think I paid about $60 and in the end, I'm sorry to say, I think that's about what they were worth. By way of comparison, I have Frye and Ted Baker shoes which are around the same price range (list) and have lasted for several years with no problems.

First off customer support is lacking, while they did get back to me, instead of offering to replace my defective boot with another pair they offered me 20 % coupon from full retail on their site, wow thanks guys. OK the good: these boots are very nice looking, hence why I bought them sadly that's it. Now the bad: the soles are leather, they are down right dangerous, very slippery on most surfaces. They crackle and snap when walking on any hard surface with dirt or little rocks (parking lot, tile floor). I could actually live with that but now add complete discomfort after about a half hour, the back of the boot is strait, it does not hold your heel in place. you are constantly gripping your toes to keep them from feeling as though you are walking out of them. I tried: 2 socks to make them snugger, added an insole for support and put grip tape on the sole to keep from breaking my neck. only the grip tape helped but they are still not usable for anything but a photo shoot. Sad to say but I just wasted good money on complete garbage and the company could care less. look for a different boot than J SHOES BRAND

The Brass color I bought looked cool right out the box and you tell these are some expensive shoes. I put a quick shine and added insoles along with some heel protectors and I was set. I initially bought them to wear with jeans but the soles makes them more appropriate for casual dress pants. The fit true to size and they seem well constructed in my opinion based off some of the negative reviews I read.

Normally I wear 9.5 - but after reading some reviews which mentioned that these boots tend to run larger than size, I ordered the 9 sized 'Glow' boot. Amazingly enough, it was still too large. There are no 8.5 boots in stock - but I liked this boot so much, that I risked and ordered the next smaller size.

These are nice shoes although i thought they would be a little narrower, but that's not a problem. The fact that i wiped out in those on wet pavement (the painted pedestrian crossing part) made me very cautious in any wet conditions; you could be counting stars if you are not careful as the leather sole offers no traction say on wet marble. Other than that - a nice shoe.

Shoes are high quality. Weill constructed and nice finish on the leather. They do run a little big in the "shoe. The length is true to size but the shoe portion is looser then normal.

Ordered the brass color, but the color of the shoes I received didn't match the photo at all. The shoes were much more reddish/cordovan than then brown color pictured. Shoes were nice and fit well, just the wrong color, had to return.

High quality classic leather boot. Old fashioned shoe making quality. Hard to find these days. Rubber sole is a great touch for durability. Runs 1/2 size large. Photo is of the brass color. It's a tad lighter in person than in the Amazon photo. Color in my photo is accurate.
