Good quality sound, build quality leaves me wanting
I got this to run my computer speakers. I've got a Mac mini and I have a Tidal subscription and I also have a small collection of iPods. He's definitely improved the sound compared to the if I am playing 24-bit 192 kHz on Tidal there are clearly better clarity. Also with Apple Music I like to stream set to ALAC and again I think I can hear a difference if it's a quality engineered recording. You have the ability to toggle through a bunch of filters setting. There it gets hard harder to tell and it really depends on what type of music you're listening to.I think to build qualities is a little disappointing I have a iBasso DC06 and its got it all aluminum construction. the HIDIZS is all plastic. I think that matters because when you're using this as an amp, it's definitely gonna build up some heat and the plastic insulate. Where is the metal would help dissipate to heat. The two buttons are kind of weird. They look like they're supposed to be dials, but you just push them. I don't know why they have textured sides. Also, it's a little confusing toggling through the different filters. It briefly shows one of the six colors and then returns to green.Overall, I think this is a good sound quality and a vast improvement of Mac mini internal dac. I don't have one end over your headphones I just have mid grade in ear monitors so they're not gonna push this amp for me to really confirm the power this thing can produce.I like the idea of being able to change to the different filters. I just wish it was more transparent, and the LED made more sense. I think the size factor is good. It's about the size of a little thumb drive. They can only confirm the functionality for use with a computer, feeding either high-end desktop speakers or in ear monitors. For those two things just definitely function well and the sound quality is definitely improved if you're streaming high bid rate music.

Sounds good. I like having volume buttons on the DAC.
Sounds good.I also included a picture of the device and how much power it draws. It does get hot, maybe the chip is using the body as a heat sink. But so far I have not noticed any sound degradation attributes to heat.Buttons are a bit loose and rattle when you move the device or brush your fingers against the buttons.I really like having the volume button on the DAC. I don't like listening to volume equalized audio all the time so this allows for quick adjustments when content gets too loud or too quiet. There are a few filters, I use the Blue one in battlefield 5.And also after you select your bit rate on your computer or other devices. There is a color indicator letting you know what bit rate your content is playing at. Very cool.USB connector does have a correct and incorrect orientation. So far I'm enjoying it.

Far From Generic!
despite the product name having "generic" in the title this DAC is anything but! I am super pleased with the sound quality as it provides a very clean sound and allows for different filter options. Although the filter options don't seem to make a HUGE difference, placebo is a crazy thing and it seems to work for me! This DAC/AMP functions very well and has driven every IEM I've thrown at it along with the Kiwi Ears Ellipse headphones like it was nothing! Some interesting things I want to point out that wasn't clear to me before I got this item:The two knobs are actually buttons for controlling volume up and volume down and they DO NOT twist. Also, when pressing the buttons at the same time to change the filters, the light will flash the corresponding color for the filter that is selected and then revert back to its solid color depending on what audio quality your music file is.SECONDLY, this dac/amp does NOT have independent volume control so when you're adjusting the volume, it is the same as pressing the volume buttons on the side of your phone. Not really a con at all but just so you know what to expect I wanted to mention that. This device DOES support in-line microphones as well and although I have no evidence of sound quality, I haven't had anyone complain about my voice quality so take that as you will. The other reviewers are right, this thing does draw a decent amount of heat and with that, does a pretty good job at absorbing your phone's battery life too so I would advise making sure you have a good charge before doing anything all day with this device. The size is perfect for a portable DAC and the connectivity is pretty darn good- in fact I think it included one of the most "secure" usb-c plugs i've ever used, the thing seriously grips and so i don't have to worry about accidental disconnects.Overall this DAC/AMP is pretty darn good and I mostly just rated based off the sound quality, clarity, and how much I personally enjoyed the device. I think this is definitely more along the lines of a pricey option but if you have the money to spend then I think you'll be very happy with this device's clarity :))

Sounds fantastic until it gets warm
The audio was great at first. After having it on for about an hour it started making thumping sounds. After maybe 15 minutes of that, the gain dropped to an almost inaudible level. For portable use with high impedance headphones, this may be OK. Once it gets warm, it degrades quickly.edit: The gain drop seems to be a thermal protection feature. I think this DAC would be great for niche cases requiring the ability to drive esoteric in-ear devices, but for general purpose on-ear headphones it doesn't really shine. The case is just too small to dissipate enough heat to keep it running.
