Excellent product with a subjective caveat
I installed four of these filters in my Big Berkey 2.25 gallon unit and they work well. I have not tested tested the claims made of removal of contaminants but, I was pleased to see they were NSF certified. The taste of the water (subjective) is clean but flat. According to several forum posts: "taste and mouthfeel in water come largely from total dissolved solids (TDS), especially minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, and bicarbonate. When TDS is very low, and both chlorine and minerals are reduced, the remaining water can seem extremely clean but also characterless or flat." In short: I may reach out to the company and explain my situation and see what they recommend. Most say to add food‑grade mineral drops or a pinch of a balanced mineral salt to make it more palatable. Despite the flat taste, I am happy with the product and functionality and would highly recommended these as an alternative to the Berkey charcoal filters. Update: The British Berkfeld website FAQ states the following "Your water's mineral content will depend on where you live." It's likely that my local water provider is the root cause of my situation. We have frequent boil water advisories so I am not surprised to learn this.

Perfect fit for Big Berkey system, fast & efficient
My husband & I have had the Big Berkey system for over a decade. We've always used the black charcoal filters and while we had no issues for years, lately, perhaps because we're now a family of 4, they kept failing. I had grown beyond tired of constantly scrubbing the filters & repriming only to have them only filter down about 25% of the way, so I was very hopeful when I stumbled upon these compatible filters. The first 2 passes were extremely slow, as expected, but after that, they filter at lightning speed compared to my old Berkey filters. I can't confirm the filtering quality specifically since I haven't had it tested, but the water tastes great and I trust the certifications behind it. I wish we'd found these years ago so we could have avoided drinking bottled water while waiting for our old filters to think about working.

Backed by strong certifications and history
Use these as a replacement for the original carbon filters in my travel berkey, and can say that I won’t be going back to the originals after these. After the royal berkey certification controversy I decided to find new replacements. I spent far too long researching and watching/reading lab test reviews. My gut sense brought me to these. While not very popular in the US, after doing research you may find that Royal Berkefeld is the original inventor of these types of filters and holds more filter certifications than pretty much any filter maker. They are backed history, science/certifications, and a seemingly strong customer base in other countries. While I couldn’t perform any lab testing, I feel relatively confident in there filtering ability and can say that the taste is quite good when filtering Atlanta city water. When first using, expect SLOW filtering, hours. But after 3-4 days of use they became fully saturated and the flow was on par with other filters I’ve used. They also let you register them online. Very Satisfied. Good price too.

Great water
I like them a lot, it's easy to see when they need to be rinsed. Water tastes clean, I'm on my second pair and will continue to purchase.

They work
Easier to install than the black filters. The black filters were not available and might be discontinued now. These worked great.

Great water
Bought my berkey during covid and this is my third ceramic filter refill so about every 18 months at a gallon a day or so. Fast shipping and as described original product and boxing. Easy to install just unscrew old take out and screw in new one comes w fresh rubber washer that goes inside to replace prevent leakage. Takes a minute for gravity fed water to start dripping but working like a charm. I have the 1.5 gallon stainless steel Berkey and thoroughly enjoy it about 18” high and lightweight for travel. My sons family has the 2.5 Big Berkey at his house and he uses the carbon filters. Highly recommend this water system worth the money. 💰

They are good
I have to admit, I was nervous at first. They did not seem to work, so I got frustrated and went to bed. I the morning, the waterhad finally filled the lower compartment. The next day, I refilled it again, still slow, but it worked. Since then. It's still slower than my old filters, but the water is great! I can deal with the speed now. I'm sure it will get better over time.

Poor filtration and ultra-slow
Doulton arrived in a crumpled manufacturer's box, inside a sealed plastic bag (all inside an undamaged Amazon cardboard shipping box.) The white Doulton filter is dry as a bone. I was surprised by it being dry, as a former Alexapure buyer where filters arrived damp or wet. I followed the instructions on this Doulton as provided, but after 13 hours, the first tank of water is still mostly sitting there. Water level in upper tank went down a few inches only in 13 hours. Instructions says the filter speed will increase after the first couple/few tank-fulls. But ... I can't even get one tank-full through it. My water source: well water. I was aiming to use the Doulton filter to improve my well water, and then run that filtered water through my more expensive Epic Nano filter. Using both would make my well water virtually perfect. (Epic can catch stuff like viruses, cysts, and whatnot -- but Doulton can reduce the work load / burden for the Epic - making the expensive Nano last longer.) However ... that's not working out since the Doulton is not working. :-\ I really liked the idea of Doulton since their testing is so robust vs my former filters. But ... how can I use it? PS: Instructions indicate washers and wingnuts should be present in package. They were not. I was fortunate I had my own.

I purchased a British Berkefeld water filter system late last year and recently needed to replace the water filters. I chose the British Berkefeld Doulton Ultra Sterasyl filters as direct replacements as those were the ones the system came with originally. The new filters arrived beautifully packaged and well-protected, showcasing the care taken to ensure the ceramic filters remained intact during transit. Each filter comes in its own box, cushioned with bubble wrap, and includes a silicone washer and screw cap for easy installation. The quality of these filters is exceptional. They are heavy, well-made, and effectively filter out 99.99% of common contaminants, including PFAS, bacteria, chlorine, cysts, microplastics, heavy metals, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. Although Doulton offers filters designed to remove fluoride, Essex and Suffolk Water do not add fluoride to the water in my area, so I haven't needed those yet. The truth is, you can't trust the quality of our water anymore. With reports of contaminants entering the water system and the poor state of our pipes and water treatment facilities, it's crucial to take matters into your own hands. As someone who drinks about 3-5 litres of water daily, I want to ensure my family's health is not compromised. The taste and quality of the filtered water are incomparable. Our tap water previously had a sweet taste and was sometimes murky. Now, we enjoy crystal clear water without any unpleasant aftertaste. At this price for 2 filters, it's excellent value for money, especially since they only need changing every six months. Plus, you can clean them with a brush or scotch pad to extend their lifespan. Installation is a breeze – just unscrew the old filters from the top container and replace them with the new ones. I have an 8.5L system, and I recommend passing at least 3 containers' worth of water through the filters before drinking, as the initial white powder from the ceramic can make the water slightly milky. I'm very happy with my purchase. Doulton is a reputable and trusted brand, and their British Berkefeld filter systems are exceptional. It's clear why they've been around for 200 years. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope that you found it helpful and that it assists you in your decision-making. I try to be as honest and fair as possible, as those have always been the reviews that helped me the most.
