This chess set looks very impressive in person. The board is solid and heavy, with the smooth, cool feel you expect from marble. The set arrived well-packaged, and everything inside was protected. The storage case had a slightly dented corner, but it didn’t affect the pieces or the overall impression — the chess set itself still looks elegant and high-quality. I'm so pleased I chose this set among the many on Amazon and ebay. The board and pieces have nice weight and are beautiful marble. What many of the other sets don't have is a high quality hard case with an insert of foam slots for the individual pieces. There is also padding inside of the case for the board which fits between that padding the soft underside of the chess pieces insert. In short, my new gorgeous set is protected. You might want to leave it out as a decorative conversation piece (but that's not an option with the animals in my home.) We are getting away from "computer simulated board games" and much prefer the tactile nature of games like chess - this is a set that fits the bill perfectly :)
