Where (as in what country) is this made?

I find no label or print saying where the item was made. Its is a lovely basket and I love mine. There is a removable rack inside. Perfect for threads, bobbins, scissors, odds and ends of small items.. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Will an 8” embroidery hoop fit inside?

Not really, as the interior width is 7 34/“ x 10 5/8“. I tried putting a 8 inch macramé hoop in and while you could tilt the hoop at an angle and close the lid of the box it would close, but you would not be able to put the top section of the box (which holds smaller sewing items) in at all. If you’re not planning to use it as a sewing basket you could leave out the top section and put your 8 inch hoop in at an angle but to me that’s not an ideal solution.
