Hours of Fun!!
I remember, as a boy, having a huge collection of Fighting Fantasy books and had hours of fun playing them. Now, as a responsible parent(!!) I have introduced my son to these great books.Deathtrap Dungeon is one of the earlier books in the series and certainly one of the most fun (the original - Warlock of Firetop Mountain is great, but not the best for first time players or younger readers as it relies on mapmaking if you want to make it through to the end). You take on the role of an adventurer enetring a labyrinth for fame and fortune. There are some nice descriptions, lots of items to discover, characters to interact with and monsters to battle. Each book has a unique plot and combine both book and game. Armed with a pencil, rubber and dice, you can embark on an adventure with multiple choices and endings. Each page takes you further on your journey and every section generally gives you a choice(s). Your choices will determine which way you go, what items you'll collect and what your fate will be. Oh, and there are onsters to fight!Every journey is different as your Skill, Stamina and Luck (all of which affect your decisions and battle outcomes) are determined by the roll of a dice and so you will find some games harder than others.Perfect for the older child and the inner child of adults trying to re-live their youth!

overrated
simplistic. Old-school, for old people that grew up with them. I sadly did not. It does however come with die roll prints on the bottom so you don't need to roll actual dice. But I can wholeheartedly recommend skipping this and get Destiny Quest 2 instead - it gives you much more richness in lore, story and combat.

A pale imitation of the original
I grew up reading these books, the stories are great. That has not changed. However, what I really loved as a child was the artwork, the beautiful drawings made me want to draw. Sadly for this edition the art has all be replaced by poor quality computer illustrations. Very disappointing.

BEWARE - not original illustrations
Don’t buy this if you want the real experience. Why Scholastic went to the effort of making new, uninteresting illustrations I don’t know. The Wizard Books reissue had new covers, but the original illustrations - these don’t.
