Conversor MM1 directional microphone

I have been provided with this microphone to record university lectures, sat even a couple rows back it is picking up nothing but noise. I tried using my internal microphone and it is picking up far more. Even in a quiet room this microphone is unable to detect me saying 'test' 'test'. Do not waste your money, this microphone is useless.

I've found this to be an OK microphone for recording voice when placed a couple of feet from the sound source.
