Are the lids as well as cups No. 5 Polypropylene? Do you know if they will melt at 250 degrees F (121 C)?

The lids will start to melt yes, but the cups maintain their shape in a hot towel caddie for a instance-under 2 hours. I'm a massage therapist, so I use them for dispensing massage/treatment products and keeping them warm.

Do the covers keep the cups from leaking even a little bit?

I did not have any problems with leakage. I have used them for transporting pickles, making jello shots and putting condiments in to take for lunch.

Will these hold hot items? Looking to use them for a Chili/Soup Cook-off...

No, these are definitely not made to hold hot foods. For chili or soup, you would be much better off with styrofoam or waxed paper containers.

They came inside the Amazon box. But they were in a plastic bag.
