Excellent quality.
Excellent quality. I also bought the base to stop rodents entering from underneath.

Decent Composter. Not fly proof.
Decent composter unit. Looks great tucked away at the side of our garden. The lid is however a little flimsy and each time we lift it up we get hit in the face with a swarm of fruit flies. These units need to be sealed up and vented with mesh instead of large gaps and holes for fruit flies to enter and breed. Of course this isn’t the only unit that is made this way and this one is probably the best choice for its size. Apart from the infestation and the fact it’s a little flimsy we are reasonably happy with our purchase so far.

Square shaped compost bin
I was looking for a large square shaped compost bin, and found what I was looking for - with the 900 litre Thermo King composter. It was supplied in parts as a flat-pack, so it needs to be put together. I found it easy to manage this as the parts fit together like a jig saw, and I finished it within about 20 minutes on my own. There are instructions provided, but I can't remember looking at them as it was so easy to assemble. It's easy to fill with your garden waste for composting as the lid opens up halfway, or you can simply take off the whole lid if necessary. For emptying, you can remove the front panel by lifting it off its hinges to gain access. One particularly useful feature is that the bin can be easily taken apart and re-assembled later. So great if you need to move location or put away if not in use.I can't comment of the durability of this compost bin as I haven't had it long. But it looks and feels sturdy, and of a similar strength to my other compost bins. So I'm hopeful that it will last for years with reasonable care.

Look elsewhere
1 /the catches on the lid arrived broken so effectively the lid doesn’t attach and can be lifted by strong wind or foxes.2 / there’s no way that the panels remove or open for filling - once it’s made its rigid and won’t separate.3/ there are gaping holes where pieces fit together and elsewhere possibly to fasten it together for transit - design faults - as these are big enough to allow access to rodents and in our garden that’s what would happen4/ as the thing won’t come apart once assembled we have difficulties returning it as we can’t repackage it - but this would be a problem for others who were moving home or who wanted it for seasonal use only as it can’t be stashed away5/ it talks about heat retention so we’d assumed at least part was double walled like an older bin we have - but it’s not double - it’s single walled with strengthening mouldings6/ we were so excited when it arrived and so bitterly disappointed when we opened it and put it together. Look elsewhere!

Thermo King 900l no use in my experience
I bought mine from Even Greener. I am an experienced gardener and composter. Previously I used a Green Johanna which was reasonably good at coping with a combination of kitchen and garden waste (though some trouble with small flies etc). I bought the ThermoKing to go with a pair of Bokashi Bins to pre-prepare kitchen waste for composting. They are fiddly but effective, I find. The Thermoking is perfect housing for rats and mice etc and as it clips together very poorly and distorts as you load it, even the mesh underneath (which has no proper attachment) is of any use. The lid clip design is very poor and the lids no longer bear any relationship to the bin.
