Save money and headaches with this device--No wall controls or wiring needed.
I just installed the Quiet Cool ES4700 fan along with the Smart Control wi fi system today (07-31-17). The system is up and running without issue. My wife and I agreed that both items were one of the best investments in our home as of yet. It was 100 degrees today and right now (10:50 pm), the temperature inside is a cool 80 degrees. Keep in mind that I didn't finish the actual install until late evening and didn't turn the fan on until 8:00 PM. No doubt had I finished sooner, it would be even cooler inside. This should go without saying, but DO NOT undertake this whole house fan installation when it's 100 degrees outside because the attic is probably 140 degrees and above. To help keep me cool in the interim, I had a high velocity fan in the attic and the only thing it helped with was a hot breeze. The air it was blowing felt like it was from an oven. Do the install during the cooler morning hours. I was strapped for time and had no choice. Here's a few bullet points on this device:1. NO wall switch or additional controls is necessary. You operate the device from an app on your mobile device. This could potentially saves a great deal of money on paying an electrician to install a timer and multi function control switch.2. The plug on your existing QC acts as the primary power source and still have multi speeds if your fan allows that option. You simply plug it into an electrical socket. (I was confused on this aspect of the system as the plug operates the fan on only high speed without the Smart Hub).3. After rewiring, you can test the various speeds of your respective fan from the top of the Smart Control Hub. This could save potential problems later on--allows you to address wiring issues if needed. Here's how effective the QC WHF is; Normally with 100 degree temperatures, the late evening into the night is a nightmare with radiant heat from the hot attic making it feel just as hot as it was during the peak temps. I can feel the breeze going past me making it feel even cooler. I wish someone had reviewed the Smart Control prior to me purchasing the timer and double three way switch. With the Smart Control Hub, those items aren't needed. I'll be returning both items. As previously mentioned, with this device, no wall switch is necessary. Yes, no wall switch is needed. They do leave you the option of using an off switch, along with using an existing power source to power the QC Smart Control Hub. But to make it clear, even if you have the timer and a multi function wall switch, per QC, you can NOT use them with Smart Control. The instructions say that you have to disable both the timer and multi function wall switch and operate the fan through the QC app on your cell phone. I have mines set up that way and it works perfect. For simplicity, I wired the Smart Control onto the ES4700 the day before. One thing to remember when wiring the ES4700, the instructions tell you to attach three black wires from the fan motor, Smart Control Hub and the plug. On my ES4700 and probably others, the wire from the fan motor is black and white. So remember to attach the black/white wire together with black wires from the Smart control Hub and plug. The wiring was self explanatory. You basically disassemble the plug, the wires from the fan motor and remove them from the metal electrical box. You then reassemble them into the Smart Control Hub. The Smart Control Hub becomes your electrical box (if you choose this option), and sits in the same spot as metal electrical box. I opted to remove the metal electrical box on the ES4700 and mount the Smart Control Hub in it's place. QC gives you the option of simply mounting the Smart Control Hub on top of the factory mounted electrical box. Either option is approved my QC and will work. The instructions state that it might be easier to mount the Smart Hub in this fashion if you have an existing QC WHF already installed. Since I had the ES4700 uninstalled, it was easier (and I found out later during the install), it gave me a little more clearance getting into tight confines of the attic entrance.Once the wires are installed, you can actually test the unit and make sure you have all of the fan speeds functional. Pushing the "fan" button on the Smart Control Hub, you can cycle through all of the speeds. For those in the market for a QuietCool (QC) whole house fan (WHF), and are looking for a super easy way to control them, this a fairly simple device which could save you a ton of money on an electrician. So overall, a great investment to my WHF and convenient too. I do most of my own wiring but this saved me many hours of running wires through the walls which is time consuming and sometimes challenging.

Won't Broadcast SSID - UPDATED REVIEW PART TWO
Installed the item prior to hanging the fan in the attic. Connected to the WiFi in the settings portion of my phone. Fired up the app, it recognized the fan, ran a few tests - all seemed good. My mistake was I did not pair it to my home system from the go - should have done that but at the time just wanted to get the fan hung before the attic reached 100 degrees. Hung the fan in the attic and now the thing doesn't broadcast at all. I have attempted to join the controller's network through the SSID manually with no luck. I have powered off the unit several times. I have rewired the entire thing up in the attic with no luck. The unit shows power, will control the fan with the fan button, and I have no idea what the join button is supposed to do (there is no documentation on that button that I could find). The good news, if any, is I put in a ticket on Sunday with a call coming in Monday morning from QuietCool - great turn around time on that customer service. Bad news is I missed the call. Waiting for a response and hope they have some magic fairy dust to get the SSID broadcasting so I can connect. If not, looks like a return. If I do need to return the item I plan on getting the IT-36002 model that has a wall switch (RF wall switch) so I don't need to run romex and have multiple switches to control speed and timing.Too bad. I really wanted this to work. I plan on updating this review pending my chat with customer service. As of now I cannot recommend this product due to its failure to reliably broadcast the SSID for connection.\UPDATE: The fix for me was so simple, I am a little ticked QC doesn't put this nugget of info anywhere in the manual or the website (I could have missed it of course) - do a HARD factory reset. To accomplish this, just press the "FAN" and "JOIN" buttons at the same time for about five seconds or so. All lights on the unit will twinkle evidencing the fan has been reset. After, the hard reset I was able to connect to the fan, then join it to my network with no problems. Easy. Not sure why the unit got scrambled but this process unscrambled it. Like I said, they should have this online somewhere easy to review - the manual as well.Note on usage - I thought I would need my device to be on the 2.4GHZ portion of my network to use the app and control the fan - not so. Since I have a split 2.4/5GHZ system, only the fan needs to be on the 2.4 portion - any device can be using the faster 5GHZ portion and still control the fan. Overall, pleased with the product, the support, and the coolness of my home.UPDATE TWO: I completely ditched this. Here's the issue. ANY time your router resets, guess what? Yup - you got it - the unit looses its connection to the network. So . . . for me, grab the ladder, hit the attic, factory reset, and reconnect to the network. This happened to my unit EVERY TIME. Got fed up and bought this instead:https://www.amazon.com/QuietCool-Wireless-RF-Control-Kit/dp/B07R5Q2WZQ/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1SPC3GXLFKBIB&keywords=quietcool+smart+control+-+for+smart+attic+fan&qid=1643020050&sprefix=quietcool%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-9This is perfect. It's RF connection from the unit, connected same way as the Wireless version, to the wall switch. No wiring down the from the attic and it NEVER looses connection since if the internet is off - cool - the RF unit is offline. But once the internet comes back online, the RF is okie dokie and transmits to the switch. Should have bought this from the jump. The Wireless one is junk in my opinion due to the drops we get these days (even a micro-disconnection that won't cause a router reset but all wireless connected appliances burp).

Easy install, works as advertised!
Simple install and works like a champ. Ignore negative reviews about having to connect the device every time...connect it to your network in the app and boom, stays connected. On initial setup it will require manual connection in WiFi settings on your device every time until you connect the hub to your network. Bottom line...RTFD...Read The _ Directions. I also imagine if you try to connect to a weak signal or a network extender, it won’t work well. Once again, RTFD instead of leaving negative reviews. I’m not tech savvy and this is the first “smart” device I’ve installed in my house, I just RTFD!!!!

Connectivity is not consistent.
Mediocre unfortunately. Debating returning it. Does it work with your phone? Yes? Does it stay connected to your network so when you try to use it, it works? No. Everyday I come home, I try to turn it on, after I connected the system to my wi-fi the night before. The app shows the fan turns on, but it never happens. I have to disconnect it from my network, use the built in network to connect again and turn the fan on, then connect back to my network. Then it will work. For the rest of the night at least. Next day, same procedure.

Poor Design
Creates its on WIFI hotspot you have to connect to every time you want to turn the fan on or off. Very flaky half time I have to disconnect connect multiple times to get to function. Has no timer or temperature function just speed. I have had to go outside to the electric breaker box multiple times because could not connect through device requireing me to climb into attic or go out and reset the breaker. Not worth the money the company really needs to outsource this and design it properly where it connects to your wifi network and you can control through existing connection.
