Powerful just like a fast desktop
I am extremely pleased beyond expectations with this remarkable mini pc. The UM 890 performs as well as I'm used to with my DIY desktop with a 12700k and DDR4 RAM. Plus I get the advantage of so much freedom of space. The best part is the great support from Minisforum prior to receiving and during the setup of the unit. Great advice and guidance in a friendly personal manner. The unit itself has a neat magnetic cover to avoid having to screw and unscrew when adding or upgrading Ram or drives. They included the occulink adapter which I might use later on. Right now I'm getting perfect 4k 144 Hz display on and M32u 32" monitor better looking then the 1080 Ti I was used to. Thank you Minisforum for a great product and service. I look forward to more.

Outstanding performance for its size.
Considering that this is a mini PC, I am more than pleasantly surprised by its performance. Most games run smoothly at medium resolution, which I would not have expected. It also has plenty of power for everyday tasks. Highly recommended.

the performance is great, but stopped working after a month.
I was not able to install linux, it says to disable the secure boot mode. but in the bios security settings, the secure mode settings is disabled. Finaly found the solution to make the bios changes. Installing the ssd on the port allocated for occulink. After a month it stopped booting, do you guys have any service center in bangalore, India?

Lots of flexibility for such a small pc
Getting the OS loaded was a bit of a pain, but I got it working and this baby screams.

Wwrks well, but a compromised solution
The Good - form factor, quiet fans, (mostly) easy to access case construction, powerful CPU/GPU vs. size The Bad - driver maturity/stability, MediaTek bluetooth and WiFI hardware, case has sharp parts and can be difficult to take apart to install storage and memory. I bought this system after a fairly exhaustive search for a mid level Mini-PC with decent bang-for-your-buck quality. The device is mounted behind a flat screen TV and the primary use case is for indoor cycling virtualization apps (Zwift, TP Virtual, etc.), so decent GPU performance is required. Barebones unit was $120 off at time of purchase. Initial unboxing - top is attached magnetically...dont start removing screws to get inside! You will have to remove four fan assembly screws to get to the SODIMM and M.2 slots, and these are long screws with loctite and screwed into plastic, so be careful when removing and reattaching the fan tray. There are a number of sharp edges inside the case, so watch your fingers or use gloves/tools. BIOS - graphical BIOS appears to be custom cooked by Minisforum, and it is more limited than the typical desktop BIOS and is not very intuitive. If you want to enable RAID, you have to select enable, then save and reboot in order for additional BIOS menu items to appear which allow you to actually configure the RAID options. Strange. Drivers - there is a driver package available on the Minsforum website , but I found that Windows update and AMD have more up to date drivers available, and these were needed in several instances in order to satisfy WIndows hardware manager and obtain a clean driver installation. I ran into issues with AMD devices not updating with all drivers when using the older MInisforum driver package. Using newer drivers from the AMD website took care of the issue. Bluetooth drivers are a different matter - see next section Bluetooth (and WIFI) - The Mediatek BT and WIFI hardware on this platform sucks. The drivers are crap, and the hardware, if it works, underperforms and lacks stability. I was unsuccessful getting several BT devices to attach to the integrated BT hardware, and had to purchase a third party USB dongle to achieve stability and broad compatability. WiFi connectivity had issues with performance, and while the device would connect, it was very slow when testing throughput via speedtest. For reference, my network is gigabit symmetrical fiber and Ruckus WiFI infrastructure, so the issue was not on the network side. Resolved by running a network cable, but this is far from optimal for most users. Performance - performance for CPU and GPU is consistent with the benchmarks that have been published, and RAID 0 SSD disk throughput is very good. Framerates for my targeted apps have been in line with expectations. in summary, if doing again I would choose a mini system with the same CPU/GPU, but from vendor that has implemented Intel wireless chipset hardware for the platform. 5/10 in existing form.
