The book was purchased as a "housewarming" gift for my daughter and her husband. She informed me that it was very easy to read and understand and they carried the book with them when they were shopping for painting supplies at Home Depot.The book also explains the basic equipment in a home and included various photos of different types of furnaces, hot water heaters, etc.She was very happy to have the book for guidance for a new homeowner and reference material when starting on her next renovation project.

I found and really love the Black and Decker photo guides, they are complete and detailed. If you were a kid that played with Lego's, K'nex, or a good old fashioned erector set and can follow the instruction you will be good to go.over all i would HIGHLY recommend this product.

I bought this book in 2009 when I first became a homeowner. I hadn't used it that much over the years. But just yesterday, my garbage disposer wouldn't grind. I was able to fix it after referring to this book. It saved me atleast $75 which is what the plumber would have charged me for just showing up. Now that alone saved me several times over what I paid for this book. I realize that video instructions are readily available these days on Youtube but I think this is a still handy reference.

If you are a new home-owner or somebody who is not confident in basic repairs, this book is perfect! Each section includes step by step instructions with color photos. At the beginning of each repair is a labeled color photo of all the tools and supplies you'll need to do the job.What I love most about this book is that it covers not only simple repairs like replacing an outlet, but even covers how to fix squeaky floors or to tune up a garage door. I've never had much experience doing my own repairs, but this book has greatly built my confidence and has me always looking forward to the next project.
