Amazing game. Underwhelming product.
If I could, I’d rate this a 4.5/5. Since I prefer to round up instead of down, I chose to give it five stars. The game Owlboy is a very charming little game. The pixel-art is breathtaking, the music is euphonic, and the story/characters are truly unique. It’s very evident that a lot of love went into this game, and I really appreciate that. Truly a spectacular game.HOWEVER, the product (i.e. the packaging) is extremely underwhelming. It would’ve been nice to see an instruction manual, as seen with a few other indie physical releases (e.g. Binding of Isaac, Shantae, Rime), but they didn’t advertise that, so I can’t be upset. The thing that bummed me out was how the inside cover is completely blank with some legal diclaimers/warranty stuff. Every other physical Switch game I own has cool art on the inside cover (I included a picture of some other physical indie games I own to show what I mean), and the fact that Owlboy doesn’t is a bit of a let-down. I know I sound really petty and innocuous, but it’s a shame to see such a beautiful game paired with such bland packaging.

Amazing and Underrated
I love this game. Pixel art is beautiful, game play is fun and jumpy, and the story is out there in the best way possible. I recommend to anybody wanting a short treat of a game that you can pick up and put down at any point. Even better this is an indie game so that passion really shows. My only regret is not finding this game when it first came out.

Really fun immersive story driven platformer
Quite the immersive story driven platformer. There is an amazing feeling knowing you can fly forever in the game and explore freely. This game offers an amazing sky centric world full of secrets and places to explore. The dialogue between characters has depth and really sucks you into their world. The main hero is mute but the way he expresses himself with facial cues is amazing for a 2d pixelized game. Give this game a shot. It’s an amazing title that sucks you in with it’s beautiful visuals and an amazing soundtrack.

This game is a hoot.
Fun game with some gorgeous pixel art. Controls can be a little cumbersome at times, especially when lining up shots in a tight corridor but overall I'm enjoying the story and the game overall. I would recommend this for a unique take on the Metroidvania genre mixed with simple puzzle platforming.

Great game!
Game case was broken but seems like a shipping issue. Game is great!! Pretty challenging, great old school graphics. Graphic art kind of reminds me of Chrono Trigger. Sound track is really good. Highly recommend this game.

Some great retro visuals in an otherwise “light” game.
I had seen a video of some Owlboy gameplay a while ago that made the game look interesting enough to buy. The retro 16-bit-style graphics were what drew me to this adventure platformer. Now that I’ve played through it, I found it to be somewhat…disappointing. Sure, the visuals are quite striking, and each location certainly has some elemental charm to it. Additionally, the story is relatively simple but also charming in its own way. In the end, though, I don’t think I’ll give this game an additional playthrough. This is mostly because—without trying—I collected almost everything in the game in my first go.First off, this was a fairly short game, which I should come to expect from independent game developers. After all, Cave Story and Undertale weren’t terribly long, but perhaps I’ve been spoiled by games like Hollow Knight. Secondly, even up until the last boss, I could never quite get the hang of the controls, which was more of a dull irritation than anything else. I did appreciate the frequency in which it autosaved, but this also made boss battles a little more challenging if that’s where I stopped playing before picking it up again. Although, the boss battles weren’t difficult either. In fact, most of the bosses were fairly simple to figure out their attack patterns in a few tries, most of the difficulty coming from my inability to use the right button at the right time (as mentioned above). I’d almost have preferred a more challenging final battle, though, which the game certainly could have given me. I chipped away at this game for probably about six months. I played when I could or when I was between other games, and it felt good to finish it, if for no other reason than to move on to the next game in my queue. Some great retro visuals in an otherwise “light” game, I give Owlboy 2.5 stars out of 5.

Not all that glitters is gold....
Gorgeous graphics and music but it all feels hollow to me. Dialog and story are like something straight out of Saturday morning cartoons crossed with early 2000's Nickelodean (complete with self-esteem-centric themes, unrealistic characters, and weirdly overblown non-threatening problems... which may appeal to you). Gameplay falls just short of good. It just didn't hook me.

Good and enjoyable game.
So I finished the game (Owlboy) to 100% completion and here is my thoughts:Gameplay was okay. It wasn't as much of a platformer as I thought since you can fly everywhere. Plus, I wish it had a mini-map of some sort. I got lost sometimes. There was a frustrating mini-game at one point too. However, I think the strengths of this game are in it's story and characters. At first, I thought it was a typical good guy vs bad guy story but it got really interesting later on. I won't spoil much but I enjoyed the story.Characters were well developed and had their own distinct personalities.Music was good and I liked how they used real instruments.Controls were a bit wonky so there was a bit of a learning curve.Overall, it's a good game and it was an enjoyable experience. 👍
