If you are a serious weight lifter
These are by far the best lifting hooks I've ever used. I've been lifting for over twenty years. In that time I've gone thru some straps and hooks. I had an older pair of hooks for ten years. I do not even remember the brand. They wore out , or I should say the Velcro would not stay closed on even the moderate weight (300 + lbs). I only use hooks when I go over 375 lbs. It was time to find a new pair. I tried three other brands and found they were all lacking. One pair I purchased hung to low not allowing you to keep your hands on the bar, the weight would be hanging on the bar. The second pair had shallow hooks and the bar would slip out, very dangerous. With the third pair the velcro would open (I used duct tape for a while but that was a pain). Finally I purchased the 'Lifting Labs' hooks., I did not experience any issues ..I have gone to 505 Lbs with these hooks with a palms down grip and no issues whatsoever - the velcro holds, no slippage, 100%. I liked them so much that a bought second pair (I wear things out). This pair arrived with some of the rubber scraped off ,it could have happened during shipping. I contacted Ryan at lifting Labs and he immediately sent me another pair. These guys have a great product and they stand behind it. If you are serious and need hooks these are what you want. I know some of you are going to say "if I can't hold the bar with my hands I wont lift it" , Well then you'll never reach your full potential because your grip will never be as strong as your back and legs on something like a dead-lift ....Give them a try and you will be glad you did...

**UPDATED: PRODUCT IS MUCH BETTER WITH IMPROVEMENTS
*UPDATED REVIEW* After seeing my earlier review, the company contacted me for specifcs on how the hooks failed and worked to understand the prooblem. As a result, they redesigned the hooks and sent me a complimentary set to try out. I used them with 400lbs (as I had done before when they broke), and they performed spledidly. Kudos to the company for being responsive to this safety issue and taking action to make this a great product. My original review is below.----- (original review )--------------------------------------------Extremely disappointed with this product. Good thing I am safety conscious or else I would have been seriously hurt the first time I used these. I was using safety stops when doing shoulder shrugs with 400lbs, so that means about 200lbs per hook. After my 7th rep or so (when my grip got tired and the hook needed to bear more of the weight), the metal piece that is used in the wrap around portion to secure the hooks to my wrists broke (not the main orange hooks, I am talking about much thinner weaker metal piece that secures the wraparound portion to my wrist) -- which meant the hook suddenly and unexpectedly came loose from my wrist, dropping the barbell on that side. If I had not had a safety stop in place I would have seriously injured the shoulder on the side where the hook had not broken from the sudden unexpected doubling of weight on it or some other injury to my feet/legs as the barbell suddenly dropped on one side. This "Achilles Heel" is clearly the weak link in what appears to be an otherwise solid design, but it is a very big safety hazard if you lift serious amounts of weight like I do.

Great for assisting with heavier weight reps. Not good for extreme weight lifting.
I've been looking for something better than the rubberized straps or canvas straps. I tried the figure eight strap as well. Though it works, it gives me the equivalent of a rug burn on my wrists to the point where it would scab over.So I purchased these in hopes that they would work for me better and they do. I'm not a big guy, 170lbs. I'm in fairly decent shape. These hooks wouldn't stand up to super heavy deadlifts. I don't think that is what they are meant for. They are meant for people like me who are in the middle. They have graduated to the class of a lifter who is getting strong enough to overcome their grip strength on their heavier lifts. That is where these are great. They lock in to the wrist nice and tight. The velcro strap is strong. If you are doing 4, 5, or 6 hundred pound deadlifts, I don't think any metal hook style lifting strap is going to hold up under those circumstances. Best to stick with rubberized, or figure 8 straps.

Not built for big wrists
These lifting hooks work pretty well and I've been able to do some training while I've been rehabbing an injury to my left hand. However I must warn that they do not seem to be built for large wrists. When I secure them tightly, I have about an inch of velcro to secure them, which makes me a bit cautious for lifting heavy. I will keep using them, but won't go heavy with them, regular lifting straps seem the more secure option.

BEST lifting hooks I've ever used!
Anybody with a gym membership should have a pair of Back Builders lifting hooks in his/her bag or locker. I've tried several different styles of lifting hooks over the years, and while I liked the theory, the application was disappointing; one style ripped the first night I wore them, the hooks on another style actually straightened out under load, and another was very uncomfortable and difficult to use. These are ergonomically perfect, SO comfortable, T-O-U-G-H, and will make all your back/bi reps more effective. Back Builders take your grip out of the equation so you can go heavy and really get to the lats. They're fabulous for deadlifts, shrugs, all angles of rows, pull-ups/chin-ups and curls. If you're serious about gains, you've got to own a pair of Back Builders lifting hooks.Christmas hint: add these to your wish list now, then come back this holiday season and get 'em for every gym rat on your list. They'll be the favorite stocking stuffer!

These seem to be sturdy enough, however the hooks themselves make most lifts very uncomfortable. I got these to assistance work with hanging exercises where my grip would give out before I was done with a set. The design of the two hooks make it impossible for me to hold onto the pullup bar in any way that would let me attempt to support myself as much as I could. Waste of money. Sticking with my old pair of fabric straps.
