Excellent colored pencils: very smooth and buttery with no wax bloom.
Beautiful colors; very smooth and buttery application. No wax bloom! Wish there were two or three times as many colors.

Quality pencils
Arrived in perfect condition. These are really good pencils. I had bought a few of these open stock and liked them so much, I bought the full set. I also have a full set of polychromos pencils and like pencils with less wax and that hold a point longer. There is a nice selection of colors in the Goldfabers for such a small set, and they layer/blend well. Happy with purchase.

Quality colored pencil
These colored pencils are awesome. They are smooth, highly pigmented, layer, and blend well. They also hold a sharp point and I haven’t experienced any breakage or crumbling. Sharpen easily. I noticed the information leaflet recommended blending with baby oil. Individual pencils are available open stock at art and craft stores. The tin and pencil holding tray is nice. The quality is nice for the price point.

These are definitely not Polychromos! They are soft and creamy.
These are great pencils! I bought a small tin of these pencils from Blick to try, while I was on vacation. My first thoughts as I opened them was, "humm, they look nice but they are not the quality that I assumed they would have, only at first glance and I haven't even put one if these babies in my hand yet!" I was expecting Polychromos quality and I can tell just by looking that Faber Castell missed the boat on these! The first thing that I noticed is that the pencils are only numbered - there are no color names on the pencils. You would think that a company like Faber Castell wouldn't even "go there." Oh well, so much for my expectations. The next and first thing that I did was to create a swatch chart. My mind changed almost instantly! These are really nice pencils! I used these pencils throughout my vacation and dare I say it? I fell in love! These are super nice pencils. I just wish that they had names ppl printed on each pencil, and that they came in bigger boxes. 120, or 150 pencil set would be great. Alas, the largest box is 48 pencils. As soon as I got home I ordered the box of 48. I have some more searching to do! Lol! As I sat here swatching my little heart out, a thought occurred to me. This set would be perfect for carrying to drs appointments and other such hurry up and wait situations. Lol! So in my opinion, I think that most of you will like these pencils. Don't expect hard pencils like Polychromos- these are closer to the feel of prismas. Give them a try! You can always send 'em back if you don't like them. Well I hope this helps. I truly hope that you are having a most blessed day, and........color on!

Interesting pencils!
The Goldfabers are certainly an interesting pencil. They are much thinner and lighter than expected, so it is a little bit uncomfortable to color with overtime. The Goldfabers do have the quality expected from a Faber-Castell product. The saturation and pigment in these pencils are really nice and show up pretty decently on black paper. The color range is a bit limited as there aren't a lot of browns, reds or purples but plenty of blues and greens. They don't have the color name on the barrels and the color that's on the end of the pencil typically is a bit darker than the pigment put down. It's very easy to grab the wrong color if you're not careful. Performance wise they blend pretty good but not anything special or exceptional. I can appreciate the consistency Faber-Castell puts into their products and these actually do not wear down very fast after a few drawings with them even if they have a thin core. I do like that the colors aren't scratchy and lay down quite nice. I do like the look of this pencil with its gunshell grey but the barcode on the pencil barrel cheapens their look quite a bit. The artwork on the tin is nice but could be a bit more poppy to show more of what the pencils are capable of. I don't like the trays inside or the tin itself. The trays are flimsy and it can get messy picking it up the wrong way. Also my tin won't close. I don't see that as a problem as I put my pencils in a pencil case, but for anyone who would want to store these pencils in their original tin may want to think about getting a case for them as I don't believe the tin protects them enough. With all the pros and cons weighed in, the Goldfabers are a good student pencil and good for color hobbyists. Artists will want to buy the Polychromos instead for their step up in having a thicker core, better color matching and better performance overall. I have the Polychromos and I can tell that there is a noticeable difference. Even if there is not information about their lightfast testing, Sarah Renae Clark did a lightfast test video on how pencils fade within a 6 month period and the Goldfabers held up rather exceptionally well. I think these are nice pencils and I would recommend these for adult coloring.

Worth Every Penny
I have always done my drawings in graphite pencil. Everyone suggested to me that I try doing my drawings in color. Since I don't care for working with paints, I decided to give color pencils a go. I didn't know if I was going to like them or even be good with them, so I purchased an inexpensive set to start with: the Castle Arts 120 pencils set (shown). I did some basic coloring book pages with them and really liked the numerous color selection. However, I kept reading and watching videos on good the other brands were. I just happened to come across a set of 24 Prismacolor Premier pencils that weren't that expensive. I started using them, and all I can say is it was quite a difference in the way they performed. I also decided to purchase a few sets of the Black Widow colored pencils. They were really nice as well. Then I came across a set of 12 Faber-Castell Goldfaber pencils. I purchased them to give them a try. That's when I realized the quality of the Faber-Castell Goldfaber pencils. They are simply amazing. And quite frankly, I truly prefer them over every other pencil I have tried. They lay down smoothly, nice color, they blend and layer very well (better than the Prismacolor in my opinion). I saw the set of 48 and had to have them. Someday I will invest in a set of Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils. But for now, the Goldfabers are doing just fine for me. I attached a picture I am currently working on. It is not finished, I just started it and have a ways to go. Maybe when I finish it I will update this post. But I do believe you will not be disappointed with them, especially for the price. Wish you luck.
