I love this mower so much. Powerful, Effortless, Quiet, Fierce Battery, and Fun
I ordered the SKIL PWR CORE 40 Brushless 40V 20" Self-Propelled Mower Kit Including 6.0Ah Battery and Auto PWR JUMP Charger-SM4910C-11. I have now been mowing with this for 13 months, and I'll continue to come back and update as time goes on. This is the best mower. I was researching for several weeks trying to find the perfect fit, and I wanted this one out of everything I found online, but because of the negative reviews about the battery, I knew I couldn't do it. Well, one day I just was reading up on it again because I just wanted this exact mower as I was obsessed, and then I finally read why the reviews were so poor on this because it was a faulty battery and the battery was recalled in December 2024. I was so happy since I knew the problem was most likely fixed so I ordered, and I LOVE her so much. If you bought one before that month you'll want to look into it. I'm a small lady, and the assembly was quite effortless. The manual was easy to read and explain. I actually put it together in my living room simply because I could and why not? You just need to put the bag together attaching the sides to the mesh bag. If you are going to use the bag you need to remove the mulch plug. The charger and battery are both quite impressive and big. The charger sounds like a motor running at first so it's not completely silent until completion. There are lights that show you when it's done. I'm definitely going to be careful about where I store the battery avoiding extreme heat and cold since a spare is quite spendy. It goes into the unit effortlessly under its trap door which is quite neat. I make sure to keep that area clean.. It's incredibly easy to adjust the height, and easier than other mowers I've had. The unit in general is much lighter than my old gas mower which this is replacing. There's a self-propelled option which is the main feature I needed when searching for mowers since I am healing from an arm/shoulder problem and have other physical restrictions. Starting- when I first tried to start this up I couldn't get it going, and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong and then after looking at the directions many times I realized the handles were not extended. You need to remove the red tabs on each side, pull out the handles all the way towards your body, then lock them back up. After I did that she was ready to go and started fine. To start you just hold your finger over the red button and pull the thin handle then while holding the handle you can let go of the start button. The self-propel feature is easy by just pulling the red handle towards you. There are various speeds from slow to fast that are a simple turn of a dial. Slow is so slow I don't even know why I would use it. Fast is perfect for a fast paced walk. I don't feel like it takes off running either when it's on the fastest setting as it's just perfect without dragging you behind after it starts going. You can use self-propel without the mower actually cutting or running which is really helpful and I do it each mow when I return it to storage. As long as the battery is inside, it will obviously work and move for you if you don't feel like pushing it when you are starting or finishing. Also, the instructions clarify this but you want to let go of the self-propel lever a few moments before you finish your row, otherwise it gets locked up and you have to move it back and forth a little bit in order to get it going again. After a little practice I learned when to let go of it to avoid this happening. The mower is much quieter than a gas mower, but I wouldn't say it is quiet. However, it is a little funny that the self-propelled feature seems to be louder than the motor itself, as you can hear it when you are mowing sometimes. It has a winding noise, but it doesn't sound faulty, I just didn't expect to hear it. It's really nice to have something that is a little bit quieter, especially when I am listening to music in my headphones. When I first started using this, I had quite a mess of very long grass in both of my front and backyards. It was also wet outside. I'm in the Pacific Northwest, and I really needed to take my opportunities as they came if the rain stopped. There were some areas where the grass was probably over 8 inches. In general, this did an excellent job cutting really thick and longer grass, but it doesn't really love when it's wet and too long. I was surprised with its abilities when I was initially testing, but I did end up raising the blade in some spots since it couldn't handle really tall and wet grass in certain areas which is reasonable and understandable. Obviously, if you slow this down and move slowly or overlap rows it handles it better. I do not plan on overworking it like I had been doing with my testing, but I just wanted to see what it was capable of and it was quite impressive, similar and very close to what my gas mower would do. I've learned part of my lawn will not tolerate scalping, so you really shouldn't cut more than 1/3 of the total height at a time. In general, this is a very powerful and strong mower. When I'm using the bagger, I can tell when it's getting close to being full. It's incredibly easy to empty the bag and put back in. I like the handle on the back since it's easier to shake into my compost bin. My front yard is half moss and half grass, and it did a great job there too including when damp as long as I have it set at a realistic cutting length. This is great when dealing with leaves as I no longer have to rake. I can use this alone or a leaf blower getting them in piles and pick them up with this. It's especially helpful along my curb that collects the neighbors leaves that blow to my side. I can leaf blow them into piles then pick them up with this or just mulch or bag the entire lawn with leaves. I do something different each time, and I like using this over the sidewalk or driveway to avoid getting the blower out after certain jobs. Sometimes it's better to pull this vs push regarding debris or leaf pickup. Strong Battery & Effortless Mowing Experience-I honestly don't know the square footage of both my yards, but it takes me about an hour to do the front and the back. Normally, I could never do two in one day because it's too much for me physically especially when my prior gas mower did not have a self-propel feature. Trying to mow a sunken in mossy/grassy/uneven yard was so painful where I would be dripping sweat with just doing one lawn. I literally can do both of these at once without even breaking a sweat because it does all the work for me with the self-propel feature. And when I'm not using the self-propel at the end of rows and around certain features, it's light enough where it's not a strain. I won't even mention I don't have to go through the barbaric starting of the lawn mower ripping my arms out of the sockets since it's just a push button. Some days I do the front and back yards then hit the curb, driveway and sidewalk to grab old leaves and debris, and the battery is still going strong even while using the self-propelled feature the whole time. When I just mow one yard, it barely takes any time to recharge as there's so much juice left. I still haven't ever completely drained the battery when using it yet, so I'm not sure how much more it could go after I'm finished. Noticed one negative- Even though this can handle the front yard with half moss, I can't get it as short as the back as it will keep dying trying to cut it. I need to raise the mower one notch than I would for the back. I actually had an opportunity to try out a couple different brand battery operated mowers since I bought this. This is a powerhouse compared to them. This battery and the quality is unmatched. I fully intend to have this working perfectly for years to come, but I will come back and update as time goes on. The warranty puts me at ease especially with such a reputable company as Skil that I remember around the house in the 80's. I've honestly hated mowing the lawn my entire life until now. In fact, I actually look forward to it, because I love this mower so much. I also couldn't even physically mow with all my body restrictions the last several years. With this I only need to be able to physically walk, and it does everything for me, thank you.

works very well
This lawnmower is great!! I purchased this one after months of searching for the best one I could find and it did not disappoint me. My old Murry gas powered lawnmower was a chore to push and I would run out of gas and have to go to the gas station to finish the lawn. It used to take me an hour or more to mow my lawn, and in the hot Florida sun that wears a person out fast. This one is ready to go right out of the box and super easy to use - battery powered, self propelled with varying speeds you can choose, used very little battery to complete the job, and the lawn was finished in about 10 minutes. I moves so easily and handles great, super fast and very quiet for a lawnmower, and when I was finished, i folded it in half, swept out the grass debris, and rolled it to the shed. I wish I would have found this one sooner!!

Easy than a gas mower
I got this mower to use inside my pool area. I have a gas self-propelled mower but due to it being bulky, the layout of the pool and the landscaping, it's a pain to maneuver inside a confined space. I would have to mow a small area, shut it down, push it to the next spot, restart and mow. I had to do this several times. Even with a bag on it, I couldn't just run it to the next spot, the blades rotating would send grass clippings into the pool. This electric mower is a blessing, its light weight, easy to maneuver and has the same quality cut that my gas mower has. It cuts evenly, doesn't leave stragglers, has adjustable propulsion speed, and has enough power to cut tall grass. It's not going to power its way through really thick, tall and wet grass, but neither does my gas mower. One thing that I really like about this mower, the blade can be shut down while you're still using the self-propulsion. I can let the mower push itself to the next spot to mow and just push a button to start the blades again. I can't really comment on battery life, takes about 15 minutes to mow my pool area and around the outside fence. When I finish the battery still shows its full, I don't know how long the battery will last with continuous non-stop mowing till it dies. Overall, I'm happy with this mower, its light weight, well built, cuts great and is easy to use. It's a basic electric mower with no extra bells and whistles that just drive up the price, I really don't see why anyone would want something more expensive.

Works well, easy to adjust and use.
So far, so good. Assembly is minimal; unfold the handle and lock it in place. Handle needs to be fully extended for mower to operate. Controls easy to use; manual has very clear instructions. I have other SKIL PWR CORE 40 tools, so I already knew how to check battery charge, and use the charger. My 7 yr. old grandson was able to operate it (without engaging self-propulsion!), although I had to help him guide the mower because he is not quite tall enough to see clearly over the handle. I have about 1/4 acre of grass to mow, and a fully charged battery let me mow all of it, except three 85' passes. Of course, I had one of my other batteries on the charger, so, when the mower's battery flashed red, I was able to continue with minimal delay. When the battery is drained, the mower just stops and the battery's flashing red level indicator is easily visible through the compartment cover. The mower arrived set on the lowest height, and on grass that was about 4" long, it clogged and stalled. Raising the deck 2 clicks solved that problem. Using the bag on the front lawn, about 3200 sq. ft, was easy; emptying it (had to do that twice) and reattaching it was also a snap. Unlike a gas mower, this mower is quiet enough that there was no need to use hearing protection. About the only complaint I have is that it was easy to snag my hoodie's pockets on the drive's dead-man switch. The self-propelled feature functions independently of the mower motor, so when you take the handle bar in your hands, you should take care not to engage the drive mechanism accidentally.

Not perfect, but overall solid. Worth buying.
Quiet, cuts well, I'm able to mow twice per charge (around 40 minutes each mow) and the bag actually collects grass and hasn't clogged yet. Only downsides I've found so far is the handle durability and it arrived slightly damaged (the bracket things where the handle spring loaded pins that hold it in place go into were bent). I was able to bend the brackets back in place and the pins hold the handle much better now, but it's still a little loose. Overall worth it for smaller yards.

Goo
This mower is awesome. It’s light but powerful. I cut for over an hour today and the battery hasn’t died yet. It cut thru thick grass no problem. Electric mowers are much better than when they first come out. Highly recommend this mower.

What A Great Lawnmower
Simply put, great battery operated lawnmower. Easy setup right out of the box. There is no assembly, pull it out of the box, unfold the handle charge the battery - then go. One item, that is key, is that it adjusts to 4-inches which is perfect for thick lawns such as St. Augustine. Highly recommended.

Intuitive handling
My new mower arrived today. I ordered it because my neck and shoulders ache after I push my old mower around the yard to cut grass in three 30 minute sessions. I am 77, so I need to take care of my joints. This self propelled mower makes doing that a breeze. Adjusting the speed and stopping the propulsion to pivot the mower is easy because of the handle configuration. And the mower just chugs up and along inclines with no problem. It took me about 5 minutes to get used to the controls. The bag held all the clippings from my 30 to 40 minute mowing session. And my shoulders did not notice the mowing as they usually do. I am so happy to find a solution. I have been paying someone to mow my grass. Now I can do it myself again. This mower will pay for itself in 6 or 7 weeks. And I am getting a healthy easy walk in whenever I mow with no neck or shoulder strain. I have used an Echo mower but it became too heavy. I switched to a lighter Craftsman battery mower but I still had shoulder strain when I used it. The self propulsion makes all the difference. I am glad I took a chance that this would be my solution. I had it out of the box and ready to go in 20 minutes, reading the manual as I went along.
