Bought these last minute for a weeklong trip to a rustic island in Mexico. I put them on the day before we left and they felt great so I figured here goes nothing. I needed a shoe that would handle a lot of situations. A day of travel by car, plane, bus, boat, feet. A lot of feet. With a 38 lb. pack. We landed in the wrong terminal to meet the bus and it might as well have been a different airport. Had to jog about a mile to meet our bus. Not once did I think about my feet. No shifting as I jumped curbs, medians, etc. They handled the pavement so well. I have high arches and they were well supported. Once on our spit of sand, more walking. Walking in Mexico feels like an obstacle course and now we have sand to contend with. The shoes did great shedding it out. Ditched the bags at the hotel and right off to the beach. Wore them right in the ocean. Then around town. In short, I wore those shoes 18 hours day 1. Day 2 we walked and hiked about 10 miles, in water, in sand, in everything. They felt fine wearing wet. They were still a little damp in the morning but it was not uncomfortable. The only downside was I have really bad foot swelling when I fly. It doesn't show up though till day 3. Because of the boxed in/nonadjustable toe box, I couldn't wear these shoes again until the day before we left. I just went barefoot for a few. Overall, I am seriously impressed with these. I have the Newports and they have always served me well. These are signifcantly lighter and more stylish but for that, I don't think they are quite as rugged and I certainly wouldn't consider this an actual hiking shoe though any trail you could do with sneakers, you could do with these. They get major style points as they truly do look great with anything. It was nice to not have to bring a "pretty" but nonfunctional shoe to go out at night. These legitimately look good with skirts and dresses. Or jeans. Or a bikini. Anything. The fit was true to size for me. I'm a solid 6 and it was dead on. Any bigger they would have been floppy and weird at the toes. I have thin ankles so the straps were not an issue. Based off how small my ankles are, I was surprised that I didn't have extra strap. If you have thicker ankles, this could be a problem. I would also think overly narrow feet might not do well. The shoe doesn't really have a lot of give, so if it doesn't fit you exactly, I don't think it will be comfortable. That being said, it's worth a shot to try on. If it works for you, it will really work. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and see this being my everyday shoe this summer and hopefully many more summers and trips to come.

Great outdoor athletic shoe. Even for those who don't typically like outdoor athletic shoes.
I bought these shoes for an upcoming trip where we will be cliff hiking, exploring tide pools on the beach, and wandering around seaside villages; so I needed something rugged, but presentable. These shoes fit he bill. I'm not typically an athletic/outdoor shoe wearer, but these do look cute on. Especially for traveling. Right now I'm in the "breaking in" stage, and am very happy with the comfort and performance. I wore them this past weekend walking and cycling. They were a little tight at first, but since they are leather, figured they would stretch a bit. They also had an odd fit at first, almost like my foot wasn't quite straight a was tilted a little sideways. I didn't want to go up a half size as I wasn't planning on wearing with socks, the footbed fit perfectly, and again, I figured the leather would stretch. After three days wearing, I'm happy to report that they have stretched beautifully and my foot is sitting straighter. The toe box has plenty of room, and I really like the reinforced rubber toe which I think will be useful during said trip. The burnt olive leather is such a nice color and goes with most of my wardrobe. I really like them much more than I anticipated and can see myself wearing more frequently, even after our trip is over. In fact, there could be additional colors in my future. I do highly recommend the Keen Women's Rose Leather Shoe. They have won this girly shoe lover over. Update 6/29: These really were the most perfect shoes for my trip. The second photo was taken after miles of walking, hours on sandy beaches, and treading through lots of saltwater. We did a lot of uphill walking so these quickly became my shoe of choice over the wedges I thought I'd be wearing when not hiking or at the beach. The saltwater didn't mark or damage the leather at all. These ended up being cooler than my sandals, which was a huge plus when the temperatures got hotter than expected. Despite being a little tight, my feet did not blister at all. They continued to get more comfortable with each wear. I twisted my ankle and had to wear a brace for a few days. The brace did fit ok, but there is no way I'd be able to wear socks, if needed. There was a super hot day in which my feet were a little swollen (salty lunch didn't help), creating a tighter fit. With that said, I think my next pair will be a size 7, just to compare. I'm still glad I chose to stick with the 6 1/2. They are the perfect shoe to wear when not swelling or injuring my ankle.

Fantastic walking sandals for a trip to Greece!
These sandals performed like champs during a 3-week trip to Athens and Crete in which we walked ALL over the old quarters of Athens and ALL over the Venetian center of Chania, Crete. I bought them 2 months before our trip and wore them only a few times in advance to get the feel of them, so they were by no means "worn-in" by the time we left for Greece in October. I normally wear between a size 9 (Clarks and Uggs) and 9.5 (Merrell walking shoes, Ariat riding boots), so I opted for a 9.5 size with this Keen sandal. I was primarily concerned about my big toes rubbing against the inside of the semi-enclosed toe box but I was very happily surprised to find that whatever contact I may be making is indiscernible. I have experienced sweaty feet in other sandals with crepe soles as my feet tend to get moist with exercise, but had no slippery or gummy sensation with these soles. (Granted the temperatures in Athens in October were perfect for lots of walking - high 70's by day and high 50's by night). The straps around the front of the shoe are comfortably firm and just tight enough to prevent slipping from side-to-side, and the adjustable velcro strap over the ankle holds my foot nicely into the heel depression of the sole. I am so pleased with these sandals - they were my first Keen purchase (but not my last!) and I feel that I took a risk on an unknown product that paid me back hugely. Can't recommend them more.

Perfect except for the non-adjustable ankle strap!
I am rating this sandal 4/5 stars as it is a nice sandal and should fit most women. However, I have a wide foot with a high instep and these shoes were just a tad too tight due to the non-adjustable ankle strap. I read about this potential con before purchasing but because they looked so nice, I still wanted to try them on to see if they would work for me. They technically fit on my foot without trouble; the strap was just a tad but too tight for my comfort level. The strap would have *probably* loosened up had I had worn them around for a little while, but at $80, this wasn't a risk I was willing to take. I also ordered a pair of Keen Bali Strap sandals at the same time and those fit better with the adjustable ankle strap. Unfortunately, because of a product defect, I have to return those too. (Note: I've included a comparison of the Bali vs Rose sandal below since I wished I could have found a detailed comparison review for the two before purchase.) Overall, these sandals are cute and functional (hard combo to find!). The sole is supportive and the sandal would be extremely comfortable if it weren't for the non-adjustable ankle strap. Again, I think this wouldn't be a problem for the vast majority of women. My feet are very wide, very high instep (as a loving family member once told me...I have "man feet" :/) and they almost fit me, so they should fit *most* women just fine. KEEN Bali Strap vs Rose Comparison: -Rose has non-adjustable ankle strap; Bali has two adjustable straps at the ankle area. -Rose straps are made of softer material against the skin. It feels velvety as opposed to the typical cloth material of Keen Sandals. Both are comfortable but if the Rose straps fit me better, I would prefer their material. -Rose feels more secure because the toe straps go up higher on the foot. -Rose has a more cushioned sole. Bali Strap has a more contoured sole. In my opinion the sole of Rose would be better for long distance walking on relatively flat surfaces. Bali Strap sole would be better for climbing, or walking in rocky/unstable areas as the contoured sole gives the foot a better "feel" for the ground under the shoe. -Bali Strap has an awkward opening near the small toe which can allow the small toe to "escape" (especially if there is a manufacturing defect making the opening larger than it should be; see my Bali Strap review). The straps on the Rose are closer together, which effectively keeps those rouge little toes contained. If both sandals had fit me, I would have definitely preferred the Rose. However, the Bali Strap is the better option for my feet.

Converted from Tevas to Keens and never going back
These shoes are hands down the best water shoes I have ever owned. I'm a tried and true Teva lady, but wanted to find a closed-toe shoe for a marine science position this past summer. I knew I would be on the beach a lot, wading in and out of salty tidepools, weaving around barnacle covered rocks, over seaweed covered rocks, and on all sorts of terrain (rocky, sandy, dirt, kelp-y -- you name it, and these shoes traversed it). My co-workers all had Keens, so I decided to give them a go and protect my toes. I'll be honest: I decided on the Rose sandal over the Whisper sandal because these were cuter. I'm not kidding when I say these shoes changed my summer. I wore them almost everyday from June to August, sometimes for 8-11 hour stints. Not only were my toes protected from bumps, cuts, and bruises on the beach, they were supported by a comfy footbed that never once left them sore. In a normal summer of wearing Tevas, my heels would often crack from exposure and wear. Nope, not in the Keens! I never once slipped over what should've been slippery surfaces, and my shoe never once got dislodged from my foot from being too loose thanks to some not-so-great velcro. In fact, the velcro is still in perfect condition! And to top it all off, the number of compliments I got on these shoes made me feel like I was really wearing some high-end fashion. I couldn't count the, "What kind of shoes are those?" on both hands if I tried. The only negative I have is a minor one: they took a couple of days to break in. That top strap is a little bit tight when you initially put these on, but it loosens with wear. Like any good shoe, there's a break-in period. All in all: buy these. Buy them and wear them wherever your adventuring heart takes you. You will not regret it! For reference, I bought the Everglade color in size 9.5. I am generally between a 9.5 and a 10, and the 9.5 ones fit like a glove.

Great sandle
These are so comfortable for long walks and have great arch support. They also look nice with shorts, capris or a skirt.

Hard to get feet in - don't breath well on rubber bed - leather uppers - weird strap
They are tight - maybe size up? The ankle strap has an elestic strap under it that prevents you from easily getting your heel into the shoe and the leather around the toes is pretty tight - guessing they need to be stretched to feel comfortable and get a foot in there. I dont have wide feet , but these are tight and the sides of my feet and heels are hanging over the edge of the shoe when I get it on. My feet look like a like 2 saussages squishing out of the shoes - I have narrow feet... hopefully they stretch They are cute - they aren't painful - yet - but If they don't stretch I can see blisters starting. The other thing I don't like is that the foot bed is rubber - it's not breathable at all - I thought it might be - so these don't really keep your feet cool like Merrell's do or even clarks or Naturalizer Soul shoes.. - they do kind of feel cheap b/c of the rubber foot bed.. Kind of weird to have a rubber foot bed and leather uppers? rubber for water shoes- but the leather can't get wet.. They also don't have as much arch support as Merrells do. Not sure they are worth it

My Favorite Shoes
I travel full-time, and these are my go-to shoes to bring along. They’re incredibly versatile, easy to dress up or down, comfortable for long city walks, sturdy enough for light hikes, and even practical as water shoes. As you’d expect from KEEN, they’re extremely comfortable and easy to slip on and off. I’ve been especially impressed with their durability. My first pair lasted nearly 10 years before finally wearing down, and I only recently replaced them with a second pair. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a reliable, all-purpose travel shoe!
