Apple iPod classic 160GB - Silver - 6th Generation (Latest Model)

Having had several MP3 players in the past from the past ranging from Phillips to Creative, I decided to upgrade to the latest I-Pod for the appeal of the large storage size since my last 60 gb player was starting to run out of space. The 160gb model seemed like a natural choice to go for, and I am so glad I did. I use I-Tunes for my music library, and the first thing of note is the simplicity and ease of use when you first get the I-Pod out of the box. You literally just plug it in to your computer, and I-Tunes automatically synchronizes the tracks and puts them on to the I-Pod. The charge time is quick, around four hours for a complete charge, and the duration of the battery life is fantastic. I didn't quite manage the 36 hours of battery life that it is claimed to have before a recharge is required - I managed just over 32 hours and was perfectly happy with that The main thing, and perhaps the most surprising thing about the I-Pod that I love is the exceptionally crisp sound quality, and it is noticeably better in comparison to previous MP3 players I have owned in the past, even when headphones have been kept constant. I know that the I-Pod has been a market leader for some time and now I can hear why. There have been several claims that he volume setting on the I-Pod is too low - something that I didn't notice at all. I listen to a lot of film scores/classical music which is often recorded at lower levels in comparison to other types of music meaning that the volume should need to be higher to be able to hear it properly. I found on the highest volume setting I was wanting to turn the volume down, and so I would imagine in other genres of music that the max volume level would be more than sufficient for a great listening experience. Of course, it can also be used for photos, videos and a limited number of games, all of which look great and play well, although I was less bothered about these functions. Overall, I wish I had upgraded to the 6th gen classic I-Pod sooner. Whilst I originally upgraded because of the additional storage space, the increase in sound quality was a really pleasant surprise. There have been issues regarding volume limits on the I-Pod, but I found that playing music at the loudest volume setting was more than I needed. The quick recharge time and ease of synchronization with the music on my computer is a bonus, and having owned several MP3 players before this, I can easily say this I-Pod Classic the best.

This is my first iPod or indeed MP3. I decided to buy it because I was fed up with lugging a load of Minidiscs around with me. In just about every respect I am pleased with the iPod Classic. If find i-tunes easy to use on my PC (Windows XP with Service Pack 3), although I am finding I am filling my computer hard drive quite fast. So far I have only used the iPod for storing music, and the 160GB on the iPod Classic is proving to be more than ample for my needs. So far I have 6.9 Days(i.e. almost one week of continuous music) recorded, which is taking 18.05GB of space. The synchronising with i-tunes is easy. Battery life has not been a problem. So far I have only charged the battery with supplied lead from the USB socket on my PC. Note that whilst mains chargers are available, they optional extras. My musical taste is almost exclusively classical music of just about every sort from Monteverdi to Mahler. The sound quality at the default settings I find very good. Many people have commented on the maximum volume level. My view is that for private listening at home, the volume is more than adequate using the supplied headphones. When listening on the bus going to work, the maximum volume obtainable is too little for quiet passages, but just about adequate for louder passages. In my view the maximum volume is inadequate for listening on a normal commercial plane. When importing CDs into the iTunes on my PC, I found that the accuracy of some of the information about the pieces is rather variable, and not available for some CDs (even some from 'mainstream' labels). The same comment also applies to the optional album cover images - some are completely wrong. I prefer to edit the composer name to put the composer's surname at the start of the field (e.g. Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus instead of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) to make it easier to find pieces by composer. However these are really comments about the accuracy of data available rather than the iPod itself. The ability to find music by composer and other searching on iPod I have found to be really good. I also bought the leather flap-up case (not Apple) from Amazon. Whilst this is excellent in terms of easy of use and the protection it provides, I do think that the 'build' quality of the case is rather disappointing in comparison with the iPod itself. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. With the benefit of hindsight, I am not sure I needed 160GB of storage (but I am not complaining) and the maximum volume limitations are a little annoying when travelling. Otherwise highly recommended.

A few years ago I bought the 4th Gen iPod Touch with 32 Gb only for keeping my media with me. I never cared much for all the apps and the camera, so when my media library started growing, I decided to buy this one. One of the best decisions of my life. This iPod Classic is one of the products Apple hasn't continued working on because to my opinion the device can't be improved. It does what it's supposed to do, putting all of your media in your pocket and ready for playback, and it does it at its best. With 160 Gigabytes you're gonna have a hard time filling this bad boy completely. The clicking wheel might take some time to get used to but you'll soon realise this is the best solution for browsing through tons of media. The playback is sublime with excellent audio quality and it also has the little extras like Shuffle and Genius. How videos work and look on the screen I'm not so sure because I used it only for music up until now. What's also real handy about this iPod is that you can activate a hard drive mode, so you can put any sort of files on your iPod and store them there for back up the same way you use a USB-stick or external hard drive. Be aware though that this iPod isn't for the people who love using apps such as Facebook and generally spend time on the internet with handheld devices. You should buy a smartphone or tablet for that. The 3 games that are on this though are pretty fun and make use of the clicking wheel really well. The game I recommend mostly is the iPod quiz, which puts your knowledge about your favorite media to the test. The only problem I found with this device is that it sometimes freezes on me when I play one of those games and I end up resetting the iPod, which isn't really a problem for me considering I don't play them very often. The iPod Classic has an elegant design with smooth sides, it really feels like a solid block of technology. The front has this mat finish (which I prefer any day over those fingerprint magnets) and comes in black and white. The back though still has this shiny metal look like the iPod touch, so scratches and fingerprints will cover the whole thing eventually if you don't treat it carefully. The clicking wheel, again, is excellent, and the headphone output is on the top as opposed to the underside with the iPod touch. It also has a lock button on the top. Be warned though that this iPod doesn't have built in speakers, so if you don't use headphones I suggest connecting it to a speaker set or dock system. I really recommend this device for anyone who has a large library of media and wants to have it with him/her daily. If you prefer watching videos on YouTube, playing games or chatting on Facebook all day then this might not be for you. One more thing, props to Amazon for the delivery. I got it in 3 days and it was in top condition, and the price wasn't too bad either. Excellent product, excellent service.

Having had a previous iPod Classic (60GB) that was rapidly filling up fast, the time had come to start thinking about a replacement with a bit more storage. Luckily, this was a no brainer! I'm not going to go into an overblown review, but rather touch upon the pro's and con's of why I think the iPod Classic is a worthy upgrade over a previous gen iPod or indeed why you should buy one if you have never owned an iPod before. Pro's: - 1. The first thing that impressed me is the size. Ok, so it's no iPod Nano/Shuffle but 5 years ago I thought my iPod Classic (60GB) was small. At 103x62x10mm, the new Classic is easily pocketable and a massive improvement over the previous gen. To think that there is 160GB crammed inside really is impressive. 2. One of the reasons I love my new Classic over my old one is the finish. On my old Classic the complete front of the unit was Glass. While this looked nice, it gradually became scratched and the constant cleaning of fingerprints became tedious. Thankfully the front of the new Classic is a brushed aluminium finish (in my case black) which I think actually looks better and is more resistant to scratching (so far). The back of the unit is unchanged from the previous gen and is still polished chrome. This does seem to scratch easily but then who looks at the back? 3. Another improvement over the previous gen is the larger thumbnails when it comes to artwork in Album view. This may not be of concern to most people but after the tiny thumbnails from my previous Classic it is a most welcome change. 4. Search. I can't actually remember if the previous iPod had this feature so correct me if I'm wrong but when you have a large collection of music like myself, a search option becomes valuable! There are lots of other Pro's I could talk about but those 4 are my favourite. Onto the Con's 1. Compared to my old iPod, the click wheel on the new Classic doesn't seem to be as sensitive. Thats not to say you are going to be fighting with it, it works perfectly fine, just that you seem to need to apply slightly more more pressure for it to work. 2. Volume. It has been mentioned many times before on here and other places about the volume level being lower than previous. I have tried both my new and old iPod and can definately say that the newer of the two is definately quieter. Its not a massive difference but is noticeable when using the supplied Apple Ear Phones (see below). 3. Ear Phones. To this day I have always wondered by a premium brand like Apple can't supply a decent set of Ear Phones. My recomendation? Bin them straight away and buy a decent set. Personally I have gone for Sennheiser CX 300 II Precision Noise Isolating Ear-canal Phones - Black . These shoul hopefully increase your enjoyment. Overall, I love the iPod Classic. It has everything I love about my old iPod & more. Marred only slightly by the lower volume and shoddy Ear Phones. If you have a huge music collection and must have it with you on the go, you wont be dissapointed.

Where do i begin? This is my first foray into the iPod range. And the whole Apple portfolio for that matter- and it won't be my last. From using ''normal'' mp3 players for a long time and mobile phones for listening to music, all i remember mainly is how long transferring music would take. I'd usually stick a memory card in the PC overnight or the MP3 player likewise, that's how long it would take. So i thought the same would happen with this. So i selected everything i wanted on it- mainly because i could now. 25GB, over 5000 tracks. In the time it took me to have a shave and a shower, the sync was complete. I've never seen something transfer that fast. I then went onto buying a movie on iTunes. So i put that over too- less than a minute. I began watch the movie on iTunes, then took the iPod away from the PC to have a look at the movie on the small screen. The screen isn't ideal for movies, but what surprised me was that it resumed from the exact point where i stopped the PC. Very good idea that i thought! You can still watch things on this screen, but i just don't think it's ideal for a movie. Even a PC monitor for me isn't ideal. The way i justified buying this is to price one pound per gig of memory. Then the rest is the iPod itself, i think it's a bergain for what it does and for how fast and well it does it. There are even games on it. I'm quite sure the iPod quiz centres around your own music collection, but i'm a bit slow on the uptake, so may be wrong. But the questions do all seem to be to do with my music collection. I've just started to use the Genius mixes, so i look forward to exploring more of what's on offer! Sound quality is ideal, lots of different options on the EQ settings. I can't quote on the battery life as i haven't been close to running the battery down yet. If i don't have my earphones in, it's always on the dock playing or connected to the PC. The number of docking options also swayed me towards the iPod. I still can't believe the range of options out there! All i all, i'd say you cannot go wrong by going for the classic. Excellent piece of kit, backed up with the might of iTunes and many docking solutions.

Bought an iPod Classic 160MB to use as a hard disk with a Sony CMT-BX70DBi DAB Micro System with Built-In iPod Dock . It's the first iPod I've owned (or used - well I am quite old!) and I think it's a superb piece of kit. As a standalone item it works perfectly. Menus are easy to follow, navigate and customize. The screen is of an adequate size and very clear and the sound through the earphones is excellent. When docked on the Sony system the menus can be accessed using the Sony remote - though you do have to be near enough to see the screen detail. It also gives great flexibility in what can be played, because of all the various ways that songs and albums can be accessed (e.g. individually, as albums, by genre, by composer/artist and through pre-formatted and user-defined playlists). Sound quality from the iPod through the hi-fi is excellent. Because there is so much memory, I've even downloaded all my photographs and have followed that up with videos. These can be viewed on your TV by connecting up the iPod using an APPLE MB128ZA/B Component AV Cable (very cheap from Amazon )or APPLE MB129ZA/B Composite AV Cable (not so cheap from Amazon) depending on your TV input capability. I have found iTunes easy to operate. It would be nice if iTunes software allowed you to view and access the iPod as a hard disk (i.e. see all of the files and copy and paste from one to the other). However, I find it maintains the music files perfectly adequately. After 2 months of ownership, I've experienced no problems. It's a pity that the extent of their album art seems limited. It spoils viewing of the Coverflow menu option. At £180 from Amazon I'm sold.

I'll start this review by telling you that before this, I had a very old, 4GB iPod nano, which was fantastic. However, it slowly fell apart and when the amount of music I had grew to around four times the amount of space it had, I knew it was time to replace it. The sole purpose of the iPod Classic for me was to hold a lot of music and possibly videos, and it does this well (my full music collection and a full series of Chuck have barely touched the sides). Everything works fantastically. The sound quality is good, and the menus are, naturally, as it is an iPod, very simple and easy to use. For videos, the screen is high quality, bright and clear. Also, when you are watching a video, the screen is large enough to enjoy it, which was one worry I had when purchasing. I have never had any problems with using iTunes, and this has not changed since I've owned the classic. One very small problem is that when labelling videos, I am not able to fill in the release date, so underneath each episode listed, it says 'Unknown Release Date'. I know, however, that this wouldn't annoy most people. Aesthetically, the iPod is very pleasing. It has a matt black finish on the front, and a very nice chrome back. The only minor niggles are that the screen and chrome smudges easily, and the chrome back gets scratched very easily (mine already has two scratches on the back). Therefore, I will be investing in a case for it. In conclusion, apart from some very minor niggles, the iPod Classic is fantastic, and I would definitely advise anyone who is considering buying it to do so. I don't know how I ever lived without it.

I bought this iPod because my old iRiver iHP ran out of disk space and I had to keep deleting file to put in new songs. I therefore got this 160GB one which should last for a while. Noticed some good and bad points about this iPod - Good - 1) The disk space - yup, it's really the only reason why I bought this, and it's big enough for the foreseeable future. Excellent. 2) The volume - I know a lot of people complained about the volume, but really, it's for your own good. I find that my ears hurt if I listen to it at greater than 60% volume, I really don't know how people can stand listening to it at 100% volume if their hearing hasn't been damaged already. Consider this a plus point if your hearing is still sensitive and you don't want your hearing damaged. Besides, it is still possible to further increase the volume in the volume adjustment option in each file, as well as using the equalizer. 3) Excellent manoeuvrability - unlike some mp3 player, it's easy to move from one folder to a different one, the circular motion works very well. Bad - 1) I really don't think iPod plays mp3 well at all. Since nearly all my files are mp3, this is a big minus. For the same file listening on the same earphone, my iRiver (as well as WinAmp on my computer) definitely sounded much better. On the iPod you need to adjust the equalizer, increasing the higher frequency to get something close to the brighter sound you might find in iRiver. Whether iPod deliberately make mp3 sounds duller to make their own AAA format sounder better I have no idea, but do adjust the equalizer if you want to enjoy your mp3 on iPod. 2) Bad earphones - It doesn't fit in my ear. Had to buy a different one. 3) File system - iPod doesn't use the usual file name, instead it read the tag inside the music files and renames file inside iPod to something like ABCD.mp3. That means that you can get funny and scrambled file names if you never get the tag organized properly. Took me a very long time to re-organize when I have more than 10,000 files in the iPod. 4) It delete files without asking when syncing with iTunes. I don't know why they do this, but it's very annoying to find that thousand of files get deleted when you accidentally do the syncing, especially after you spent days adjusting the tag in iPod. Best to manually manage file and turn off the sync option. I'd say that overall it is good, but you need to spend a little time learning how to use and tweaking it to get the best use out of it.

Das ist nun schon mein zweiter iPod Classic, der erste wurde 2005 gekauft und blieb dann aber im Haushalt meiner ex-Frau. Was einen iPod Classic aus dem Jahre 2014 von einem iPod Classic aus 2005 unterscheided? Er ist nicht mehr ganz so perfekt. Die Festplatte arbeitet hörbar und spürbar: bei dem alten iPod hatte man das tolle Gefühl, das Gerät würde Musik aus dem Nichts zaubern. Von der Technik im Inneren hat man nichts gespürt. Außerdem arbeitet die Festplatte langsamer: Das bedeutet, dass man die Cover der Titel erst nach einer oder zwei Sekunden sieht: Das klinngt nicht nach viel, fühlt sich aber so an, als würde man bei einem Blick auf das Auto-Cockpit erstmal nichts sehen und erst nach 2 Sekunden sieht man Geschwindigkeit etc. Fühlt sich einfach nicht so gut an wie früher. Die Kopfhörer sind nach 8 Monaten auseinandergefallen, die alten Kopfhörer haben bis heute gehalten, also neun Jahre. Verbesserungen sind mir am neuen Gerät nicht aufgefallen - die Festplatte ist sicher größer, aber auch bei meinem alten iPod bin ich nie an die Kapazitätsgrenzen gestoßen.

Apple depuis plus de 30 ans (oups...!), j'ai acquis à sa sortie le premier iPod, il doit y avoir une quinzaine d'années. L'iPod classique actuel n'a rien de comparable. Je possède des centaines et des centaines de CD classiques, variétés, jazz, etc. Or, certes, ce fut un investissement financier ...et aussi en temps considérable. Mais j'ai tout numérisé avec, prudence, copie, sur disque externe. Et surtout sur l'iPod classique. Une merveille. Fini de mettre un CD dans un lecteur puis d'en changer un autre une fois le premier terminé. Tout est désormais disponible, selon son propre classement et ses choix. Sans compter la possibilité de l'écoute en voiture ... Avec une capacité (160 gigas) unique sur le marché. Et avec un prix sur Amazone près de 100 euros moins cher que sur Apple.

Après mûre réflexion, car le prix consiste en un petit investissement, nous avons enfin franchis le pas et acheté l'IPod Classic 160 Go (Noir). Celui-ci sert à remplacer l'IPod classic 4Go (acheté en 2007 et toujours nickel) et surtout la pile de CD's phénoménale que l'on doit prendre lors de nos longs voyages en voiture. Je dois avouer que nous sommes bluffés et sous le charme. Pour tous les utilisateurs, comme moi, de l'ancienne version, le changement se fera sans aucun problème. En revanche, pour ceux qui sont habitués aux écrans tactiles, il faudra peut-être un petit temps d'adaptation. Pour l'utiliser, il faut d'abord installer iTunes sur votre ordinateur (c'est, personnellement, ce que je déteste chez Apple), et éventuellement créer un compte icloud.com si vous souhaitez acheter de la musique ou des films en ligne. J'avais oublié que la copie des CD est un peu longue. Si vous souhaitez transférez vos ficher de Windows Player à i Tunes : oubliez ! Sinon, vous devrez le faire titre par titre. C'est extrêmement laborieux. Il vaut mieux copier la musique directement à partir de vos CD. Une fois que votre musique est chargée, il vous faudra connecter l'iPod. La synchronisation se fera alors : cela prend également du temps. Prévoyez de le faire en plusieurs fois si vous souhaitez mettre beaucoup de CD's. Sur l'appareil lui-même, il est un peu épais mais très robuste. La qualité du son est impressionnante de même que sa capacité. 160 Go est énorme pour ceux qui ne l'utilisent que pour la musique. Je n'avais pas tout à fait pris la mesure mais je ne regrette pas mon achat. On y trouve les fonctions classiques de l'IPod : calendrier, tâches, jeux, alarmes, etc. Contrairement à ce que j'ai pu lire sur un commentaire, les albums sont classés par ordre alphabétiques et c'est très facile de s'y retrouver. A partir d'iTunes il est possible de se créer des listes de lecture personnelles... Ce produit est un vrai petit bijou. Il est mythique et fantastique ! J'espère que ces quelques lignes vous seront utiles.

I purchased my first iPod classic (I believe it was a 4th gen) in 2004, and I've owned a total of 3 prior to purchasing this one. I wasn't even aware there was an iPod that had 160gb storage. The refurbished iPod I received not only looks brand new, it operates as if brand new. I use my iPods quite often so I need a strong battery, and this one is stellar. Green Apple Classics is a company I will be returning to in the future for my iPod needs!
