Good all round NVR for IP cameras (including 5MP cameras)
I bought this NVR to replace my older NVR and allow me to record some new 5MP IP cameras - my old NVR only supported 2MP cameras. As with most of the cheaper NVRs, the Evtevision comes without a hard drive for storing recordings. It was very easy to swap my existing WD purple 4TB surveillance drive into it. Just 4 NVR case screws and 4 mounting screws inside for the drive (these aren't provided). Connection internally is via a normal PC power and SATA connector - these cables are already in the unit so all you need is a hard drive (and mounting screws).Once the drive was installed the NVR booted OK and recognised the drive. I re-formatted it and was ready to setup my cameras. The NVR has both HDMI and VGA outputs. I connect mine via a computer monitor, but it could also easily be connected to a TV's HDMI port. The NVR runs from an external AC power brick (supplied) that delivers 12 volts to the unit. In operation I found it drew around 0.5 Amps at 12 Volts which is 6 Watts, about average for a unit that runs constantly and has a hard drive. With average UK electricity prices this is about 2.5p per day or £9.12 a year. The interface is very similar to my old NVR with all inputs conducted via a mouse (a small cheap USB mouse is provided with the unit, however it does work with a normal wireless dongle mouse which is what I use). This can be a pain, but only when entering IP addresses and passwords on the screen based keyboard. Most of the time you are just pointing and clicking. While you can plug a USB keyboard into the USB ports, it doesn't work. Mouse only input unfortunately. The NVR can run through a wizard that automatically scans for cameras on the network and it picked up all 9 of mine. I had to enter the passwords for each camera, but once entered, all cameras were showing and being recorded. They are a little fiddly to manually setup and it's not very intuitive unless you have used one of these units before.I use the NVR to record up to 9 POE IP web cameras 24x7. An alternative schedule for recording can be set for each camera over a 24 hour period. The NVR also supports motion detection and this can be setup on individual cameras. It can capture video and images when a motion event is detected and add an amount of post event time - all fairly standard NVR fayre. It can also send alerts if the video signal is lost, or blanked out.All 9 of my cameras record faultlessly with all recording at once - 4 of them are 5MP units (but streaming at 4MP resolution to lower bandwidth) and 5 older 2MP (1080) units. In 5MP mode the NVR can only play back a single channel at a time. Playback of a single channel is fine for my needs, but it is sometimes nice to be able to playback 2 channels where 2 cameras look at single location. The NVR can be set to a 1080 mode which allows playback of 2 channels simultaneously if this is a necessity.Recordings are easily played back picking a day from a calendar and then searching recordings for each camera. This would be a little easier if the camera names were used in the interface instead of just their numbers. Recordings can be exported in whole to a USB stick (2 x USB 2.0 ports are on the back of the unit) or you can select the start/end of an event and export just that clip to USB stick. The NVR can be cloud enabled and can be connected to over the internet using the xmeye mobile phone app. Although this isn't something I require, I have tested it and it does allow you to remotely monitor the NVR from your phone - with all the cloud based privacy and access worries this entails. There are a lot of features that the NVR supports that are far too many to go into, but it provides most of what is required for a small business or private home owner would need - like setting the time from the network, sending files to an FTP server etc. It appears to support WiFi and I did try to connect a USB WiFi dongle, but it wasn't recognised. With the amount of bandwidth an NVR needs to communicate with cameras a wired connection is really needed.I have contacted the Evtevision support email address to enquire about firmware upgrades and responses were prompt and helpful, so I can also actually highly rate the support provided as well. All in all I would recommend this unit to anyone wanting to run a small business or private home CCTV setup. It's small, fairly easy to operate and cheap to run. It also produces good recordings which can be exported to USB.

cheap knock off
buy cheap buy twice or 3 times as in this case.i bought this Ectivision NVR 32ch to find out that the quality was extremely poor and it wouldnt add all 16 of my current cameras. they were all purchase together and all the same make/model. i returned this nvr, bought another "lookcctv" nvr and i couldnt believe the same box turned up, i plugged it in exactly the same interface and exactly the same issues. i then went to a not so local shop and bought a Hikivision nvr, plugged in and away we went in less than 5 minutes with no problems. spend a little more and dont get this box that is obviously mass produced and sold to different brands passing it off as their own. it a load of male cow poop!!!

Beware of Limitations
If all you want is a simple CCTV system to sit on your desk, recording 24x7, then this will probably be fine. The UI is a bit hard going at times, but gets you there. No keyboard support, so all input is via Mouse, which isn't as bad it sounds. It connected to some cameras straight away, which was impressive and it detected my new H.View 5MP cameras easily and soon had them all connected and the two PTZ cameras I had both worked fine (one of which is about 4 years old with a beta version of ONVIF support, so I was impressed there!)Now, you can remotely connect the app to the device and browse the cameras, but this is live view only, there's no way to playback footage and I couldn't get sound to work via the app, despite the cameras having audio. Also, if you use Chrome (and being Linux based, IE is not an option for me), don't expect to be able to use the web interface at all. It specifically tells you to use a version of Chrome that was released in 2015. Yes, a 5 year old version of Chrome. Firefox fared no better either. Whether IE is any better I have no idea. It also appeared that web support was limited to viewing, no maintenance options were apparent.I emailed support about this and got no reply. As I want to manage & view it remotely, this was a deal breaker. In addition the Motion detection interface is flaky at best and bugged at worse. Trying to set masks for it per camera simply overwrote the cameras with the same mask. The Face Detection button returned an error too. When playing back the recordings, none of the 'smart search' features worked either, even if a recording had events, it didn't find anything. However, as I said, if all you want is a system to record stuff 24/7 and you're happy to manually search recordings - that interface was OK and it was actually quite good to be able to search two feeds at the same time.Backups appear to be able to be exported in either AVI or MP4, which is useful. All in all, not bad, but it doesn't do what I need it to do due to bugs and as I said above, the remote access limitations are a deal breaker - plus the non-existent support doesn't bode well.

Poor Software
Had to return this NVR soon after receiving it. At first all looked good after I installed my HDD. When I attempted to playback a recording later in the day the display eitherfroze for minutes before jumping forward/backward in time to another place in the recording. Then it re-booted several times.
