Zatarain's Cheddar Jalapeño Cornbread Mix, 12.5 oz

The cheddar jalapeno cornbread mix is really good. It definitely has a medium hot jalapeno taste (at least my taste buds). Recipe is easy to make. Bakes with a nice crisp around the entire muffin. Great with black eye peas! The texture and moisture is truly a cornbread and you can taste the rich taste of plain cornbread also. I cut my butter in half and did half butter and half extra virgin olive oil. Great taste and I my stove cooked in 21 minutes at 375 degrees.

This cornbread mix was absolutely delicious and has the texture of true southern cornbread. It honestly is a bit fluffier and the quality I would expect from my southern restaurant (even ones like Cracker Barrel). Unlike some corn bread mixes, though, don't be fooled, it is not gluten-free. While this isn't a concern for my family, I do have some friends who couldn't have this, and I try to keep a note in case they are visiting. Just be careful since it is a bit on the spicy side. I was a bit surprised by it, honestly, since I don't expect most things like this to be spicy (so I mixed it with spicy cheese). It threw the heat to the next level, which was perfect for my husband. For me, though, it is the perfect amount of medium spiciness with sharp cheddar cheese. It is a bit more on the moist side, which wasn't bad for me, but know that it is still a sweeter cornbread. I considered it a great value for the money with how much my family enjoyed it (especially since all of the meals were eaten in one sitting).

I've always liked Zatarain's rice/jambalaya boxes from the grocery store but have never seen their cornbread so I thought "what the heck" and ordered 2. They were easy to make (you have to add 1 egg, 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of cheddar cheese) and came out just perfect. I did cook them for an additional 3 minutes and I'm sure each oven is different. Obviously I let them cool for a bit an then sliced out some small squares for dinner and to take for my lunch. They definitely have a little jalapeno snap to them but nothing that will burn your mouth or tongue. A nice change from the sweet/honey cornbread and I will buy again. :)

Very good flavor and taste. Make sure you use a cast iron skillet and high quality cheese and milk.. Next time I will add whole corn in it
