my switch only doe 802.3af/at is this adaquit to correctly power this ap as im getting connection drop out issue , my devices lose ssid every 20min ?

802.3af is perfect. What type of Ethernet Cable? Do you have spare Ethernet cable you can test with?

I'm totally tech challenged, so sorry about that, but how does this work? Can you use it for traveling or do i need a hot-spot device?

This is an access point, you need to feed an ethernet connection via an ethernet cable in order for it to distribute it. It is not a HotSpot.
