A deserving sequel to The Spear of Destiny
I read The Spear of Destiny a few years back and honestly was sad that there was never a follow-up. When The Absolution of Kane was announced I jumped on it straight away, and boy does it deliver!Like the first book in the HEROPLOT series, Harvey again writes dialogue masterfully. I think he's perhaps one of the best writers of character dialogue around today. He really develops his characters, so much so, that you can't help but find yourself imagining them speaking in real life.It should be mentioned that this book is a huge step away from the first. I thought the first was heavy in places but then perhaps needed to be because of the world building. In The Absolution of Kane, Harvey is setting the scene for something that you can't really guess at yet. This book, Part I, is clearly meant to introduce us to a group of friends and their struggle within DomiNation. What's really cool is that Harvey has chosen not to simply follow on from the end of the last chapter of the first book. Instead, the second book begins a few chapters in from the end of the first and without giving away any spoilers, when Spear mentions something about bringing Woodville online. This was really wonderfully done. So subtle. For fans, they will get it straight away, and for the casual reader, it doesn't impact at all on the story.Harvey again leads us to a cliffhanger and wants us to wait for Part II. According to the site, we thankfully won't have to wait as long this time, which is great news indeed since I need to know how The Absolution of Kane ends.I give it 5 stars but would give more if I could because it is so well written and flows so smoothly. If you love dystopian fiction or YA fiction, this series is definetly for you. I just hope Harvey keeps this up because he's so visual in his writing that this could easily become a tv or film series if he can continue to produce enough material at shorter intervals.

Not just a sequel. It's the start of something big!
The first book in the series set the stage for a very interesting dystopian world and I`ve been waiting to read the follow up for a long time. Without giving any spoilers, a young group of friends grow up in the seemingly forgotten outskirts of DomiNation. When a new girl shows up in town, sinister events start to occur. Suddenly, their sleepy little hometown is not what they thought, and soon they find themselves in the middle of a nightmare. The plot quickly thickens, and the book hooks you early on, not least because of a great and heartwrenching story about the challenges of true friendship. Part I ends by revealing a terrible truth that leaves you not only craving, but needing to know what happens next. I can`t wait for Part II!

Can't wait to dig into book 2 of this great series.
I loved the first book and now book 2 is out and book 3 on the way. I really can't wait to read this. I have heard rumor that it.is even better and more gripping than book 1.

An excellent follow up
The first book in this series was a well written and clever story, that specially the yong teens in our family liked very well. The second book has been long awaited, but it was worth the wait. The storyline makes a successfull jump in time and setting, and brings us to a darker place than anticipatetd. It ends with a cliffhanger that just makes us want more. Luckily book number three is already announced to be awailable from the end of next month. I think Harvey has created a storyline and a universe that truly can expand further in any direction. For adults the books are easy but fun reading. Perhaps one day we can dive into a parallel series even more targeted towards adults, that can dive even further into the everlasting conflict between use and misuse of technology and its possible effects on society?
