Brilliant. Simply brilliant science fiction!
I make no secret in being a huge fan of Harvey's work but this latest instalment to the HeroPlot series is nothing short of a masterpiece. It has everything. Tragedy. Death. Romance. Betrayal. Revenge. Redemption. Action. Suspense. Not to mention an ending that will leave you begging for more. It is, quite simply, brilliant! In my opinion it's a bit tricky to catagorize this book because I assume it falls into YA or Young Adult or YA Sci-fi genres... and perhaps in many ways that is true. But that would also be an oversimplification and a huge injustice to Harvey because it's a book that transcends many categories, at least in the defined sense of what science fiction or a young adult book series is typically seen as.I loved The Spear of Destiny, and The Absolution of Kane Part 1 was so clever in its setting and follow on from Spear but this third book is easily his best yet. In fact, I don't think I've ever read a book before where so many threads and unresolved questions are not only picked up and addressed, but where they fit seamlessly into the story and each revelation only makes it better and deeper and leaves you thinking, why didn't i see that coming? For me at least, that's the sign of a great writer. Not a good writer, but a great one. Everything. Every detail is thought through, so much so, that Harvey is able to lead you along and pull you in, closer and closer, and you think you know what's going on until suddenly you realize you don't and not only that, but the clues and hints that were there all along were so fantasticaøly subtle that it's only afterwards that you are able to step back and see the whole picture.5 Stars without any hesitation, and my whole-hearted recommendation to anyone who loves a great, action suspense thriller. Be it young adult, sci-fi, or even fantasy to a degree. You will love The Absolution of Kane Part 2, and I'm so glad that I am the first to leave a review and be the one to tell you. It's a Must Read, so what are you waiting for?
