I had been thinking about trying soil blocking for years, but was skeptical. I wish I’d tried it sooner. I couldn't be happier with this Ladbrooke soil blocker and the results I’ve had! I used potting soil that I mixed myself for general use, not soil blocking specifically and it was very easy and the blocks held together well. The soil blocker is very sturdy as it needs to be since you are exerting some force to press the soil into it. I’ve used it multiple times this season and it shows no signs of rust or any other deterioration. It is a very well made product and I’m glad that I went with the well known brand instead of going with a cheaper one. It seems that the key to the process is making sure your soil is wet enough, but that was also easy to get the hang of. My seedlings that were started in the soil blocks appear healthier than the ones that I used peat pellets for.

This has worked great for creating medium sized soil blocks for starting my seeds! Heavy duty and high quality. Will definitely be back to buy the other sizes.

Great for seed starting, easy to use, made beautiful seedlings

I’ve done over 2,000 blocks (that’s only 20 1020 trays full) and am happy with it. I get a lot more blocks in a tray than with the 2” blocker I’ve had for years. I use this one almost exclusively- I only use 2” for things that are going to stay I blocks a long time. Otherwise this fits more seedlings per tray (so onto my limited heat mat space or limited grow lights) and uses less blocking mix per plant. Had it over a year, no sign of rust or deterioration.

We will absolutely get continued use out of this each year. This being a planting item, it is only used once a season. But our first use of it was excellent. Look forward to the benefit of this each planting season.

The media could not be loaded.  I love this soil blocker. I have the 1.5 inch and 2 inch soil blockers. It’s important to have moist soil to use them, but the blocks are easy to make and plants don’t get root bound. The material is heavy duty and if taken care of after each use, will last for many years. Very happy with this purchase.

For these soil blocks I just sifted potting soil, mixed in some myccorhizal, got everything quite wet, and pressed the soil blocker down repeatedly, scraping the bottom 1-2 times with a spatula before pressing out onto trays. I keep them moist by bottom watering to keep them from crumbling. The seedlings seem very happy!
