Affordable Shredder for Personal Use or Home-based Business
This is the quietest shredder ever. I've just started using it so I can't yet speak to its long-term viability. It certainly seems as sturdy as the other two shredders I own. This one is for my new office. I'm pretty paranoid, so I definitely prefer this micro cut. Anyone who can piece the tiny shreds back together deserves to see the confidential information. An improvement would be for the manufacturer to add wheels. I happen to have some wheel things I bought for a desktop computer, so I'm using that. Not perfect, but it's fine. Also makes the shredder a bit higher up which my back likes. :-) There is a handle on top that you use to pick up the section where the motor is encased. This is how you get to the bin to empty it. It is a bit heavy. Fine for most people, but if you have arthritis this may not be the right shredder for you. (Get the kind where the bin slides out.) I have back problems, but had no problem lifting this and setting it aside. There is a little window so you can see how full it is. However, I'm using wastebasket-sized garbage bags to catch the paper; it may obscure the window. Here's what I've shredded so far with the SimplyShred: Credit card: Handled with ease. 10 pieces of paper: Jammed about 1/4 of the way down. Used reverse function and had no problem removing them. 9 pieces of paper: Same as 10 pieces. Too much. 8 pieces of paper: Shredded them with ease. Envelopes with windows, about 1/8" to 1/4" brochures, a large mailing envelope folded in half: All shredded with ease. I then tried feeding paper and envelopes at odd angles. In some cases this causes the paper to crinkle up, but the shredder still handled it. The SimplyShred is slower than other shredders I've used. Probably part of why it's so quiet. Maybe all micro-cut shredders are slower; this is the only micro-cut shredder I've used. Wrap-up: Quiet, low-cost, micro-cut shredder perfect for personal or home-business use. Highly recommend. One last thing: Buy those oil sheets and use them periodically. Follow the instructions. The kind I bought said to run it through the shredder than hit the reverse button to make sure the oil was distributed. Royal Sovereign RS-SLS Shredder Lubricant Sheets, 10-Pack

Quiet and capable
I really liked my old shredder, but when this arrived I was pleased to find how much quieter the SimplyShred was. It's a great size for home use and also has every feature I was looking for; small cross-cut bits, CD shredding (cuts into wider strips using the designated slot, not cross-cut), and can handle 7 sheets. I shred a lot of stuff and am very happy with this so far!

Nice little shredder not for for heavy duty use
I've been using this shredder for approximately 1 1/2 years to replace an old and loud but super heavy duty Fellowes shredder that lasted about 20 years. It was super heavy and could shred for hours as long as I kept adding oil. This shredder so far has proven to be good - great in that it shreds comparable micro sized paper as my old Fellowes at about the same speed, shreds credit cards/cds though not in micro size and has a convenient waste basket that catches all the junk passing through it. I estimate I used it at least 20 times and have shredded probably 100's - 1000's of 8.5 X 11 sheets, receipts, junk mail, etc... It is very lightweight and shreds so quietly that I can use it at midnight without waking up the neighbors. Now to the cons: it only allows you to shred for 5-10 mins before it overloads and a red light comes on shutting off the unit for about 15 minutes, the waste basket is one piece not the kind that has a flip open door allowing removing paper much easier. When the basket becomes full you have to lift up the shredder portion, place it on the floor or chair, etc... and then throw the paper out. After that you can place the shredder back on the waste basket. Just one caution that pertains to all shredders; only use oil specifically made for shredders. The manual states that any other kind of oil can overheat and potentially catch fire since the shredder produces a lot of friction and heat when used for extended periods of time. I bought oil made by Fellowes and have not had a problem.

Great shredder
I really like this shredder. It is very quiet. The top has a handle for easy removal from the base for emptying. It shreds paper very small so the bin holds a lot. That means the bin doesn't have to be emptied so frequently. I wouldn't shred more than a few sheets at a time in this shredder. I previously had a shredder with a pullout bin and paper pieces hanging from the shredder would fall out and make a mess on the floor every time I pulled out the bin to empty it. That's not a problem with this shredder. The only thing I wish this shredder would do would be to shred credit cards and discs into pieces as small as it shreds paper. It cuts credit cards and discs into strips. That's okay for discs, but I will cut my credit cards up with scissors. All in all, I'm glad I found this shredder and I have no regrets about buying it.
