Not bad, but really needs improved instructions
I bought this protein skimmer from someone used and it was missing the lid on the collection cup. I have the model with the collection cup that has the drain on the side. This is a nice feature as I can keep a 5 gallon bucket under my tank and have all of the dirty water go there. This allows me longer in between having to fool with this cup. It did have the normal break in period where there were a lot of micro bubbles. I am running it on a 75 gallon tank which is the highest amount it is rated for.Pros: - It seems to work well once you figure it out. - It is a HOB which is nice because I don't have a sump under my tank - It is easy to start running. - Great customer service. When I bought mine, it was missing the top of the collection cup. I email the company and they got back to me quickly. They offered to send me a new one for what I considered a very reasonable price (around 5 dollars with shipping). This is much cheaper than I was finding them for on Ebay. I sent them the money and had the part in no time.Cons: - Instructions are terrible. No where could I find information on how to adjust the amount of skimming that I was doing. Since I bought it used, the O ring on the cup was a little worn and it kept sinking under the weight of everything. This caused it to really drain water. I was losing 5 gallons in just a few hours. It was to the point that I would leave it off most of the time until I figured it out. For those wondering, the higher the collection, the more really dirty water you will pull and still have water in your tank when you get home.If it weren't for the terrible instructions and all the frustration I had in trying to get this to work, I would have rated it higher. I hope that my trials and tribulations will help someone else.

so far so good
just received the aqua c remora with the mj 1200. i took a little time cleaning it but was well worth it. it took literaly 5 minutes to hook it up, and pluggred it in. some reviews said it was going to be loud but im used to the crappy seaclone (seaclown) but not bad at all. ill give another review about week see how it is going. i give it 4 stars but i think it is going to be a 5 star. it is also well built , not sure if going to get the skimmer add on though ,that seems a little bulky.

You get what you pay for... :)
And in this case, you get a lot. After researching many types and brands of skimmers, I chose the remora. It is nicely constructed out of lexan or similar material, involved no real assembly so just attach the pump, drop it in, and let it go. Within a few days it was already skimming nicely and adjusts easily to change the type of skimmate you want. It is very quiet, the cup is easy to clean and can't overflow. Makes taking care of a saltwater tank seem easy... at least in the skimming dept.

Cheap parts that break after 1 month of use.
Piece of junk. Like all new pumps comes with a cheap piece of s*** impeller that breaks after a month of use. Don't waste your money on this product.

Pass...its day is done
Hang on skimmers in general are not as effective as in sump or even external units...so given the price point they want for this you should really do your research before settling for this unit or others like it. This model is outdated in today's marketplace. Fifteen years ago it was top tier, but I'm honestly surprised it's still being produced. It comes with an underpowered pump...so if you buy the unit be prepared to upgrade out of the MJ1200. Also be aware that the MJ1200 does not handle any back pressure on the impeller...again, it used to be a solid pump and then some suits in some office made a decision or sold the design...something happened and almost overnight the box design changes but so did the MJs ability to do anything more than circulate water. Cobalt seems to have gained the design rights to the old MJ pump...so if you must use an MJ type pump then stick with Cobalt brand, altho you'll pay more and have to search for distribution.I had this skimmer on a 60gl tank for years before I understood that altho I was emptying the cup weekly it really wasn't great skim. And over time it seems to pull less and less...which might simply have been the oils coating the surface of the skimmer, but by all means this slim unit is not easy to clean internally if that was the case.Bottom line, it's 2014 and this is old school technology that should be discontinued. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Great protein skimmer
I have used this thing for about a year on my 38 gallon saltwater tank. It works great if and only if you keep the intake on the maxijet pump clear and empty it regularly. If you do those things you will have very good water quality. It is a great option if you dont want to have a sump. I use it in conjunction with a fluval 406 and some circulators

Works great
This is the second remora skimmer I've purchased. This one a little smaller then the old one but lots of new improvements. Only skimmer I'll use.
