Swings and Roundabouts
I'd had a Humax PVR-9200T for several years and it had been faultless but when I bought an AV receiver and surround sound speakers I found I needed something with HMDI output to get the best out of the AV receiver and I also wanted HD capability. The 9200T had neither so I decided it had to be either a Humax Fox-T2 (the latest equivalent of my 9200T) or a Youview box. I opted for the Youview even though there was £50/£60 premium. The Youview has performed faultlessly over the four weeks since I got it but I'm not sure it was the best decision. The 9200T and the Fox-T2 both record two programmes whilst you're watching a third but with the Youview you can't watch a third whilst recording two - you need to use the TV's own tuner or a second box to watch a third programme (a DVD player/recorder does the job for me). Not a big issue but a definite irritation. The lack of WiFi capability has been criticised but my router was too far from the Youview for WiFI to have been practical anyway so I installed second router I had lying around (can't have both routers on together though) so it wasn't an issue for me. The second router is off most of the time. The HD capabilty proved a disapointment for me. I struggle to detect any difference with my 32" TV though if you have much larger TV it might be more noticeable. My conclusion? If you already have a twin tuner PVR and don't need frequent access to i Player etc then stick with what you've got. If you need to upgrade from a single tuner PVR or a DVD recorder then go for the Fox-T2 and save some cash. Youview facilities might expand in the future and make it more attractive but for now I don't think it represents good value.Following comments from other users I have discovered that my original statement was wrong. You can record two programmes and watch a third, within certain limitations (see Scuttlebroom's comment for details). This is the same as for my old PVR-9200T. Happy to put the record straight although if you read all the comments you will see I think it is easy to come to the wrong conclusion from the information on Humax own web-site.After another 3 weeks of experience with the Youview I'm still not convinced that the Youview is a better buy than the Fox-T2 although when/if new facilities are added to the funcionality that may change.

HUMAX DTR 1000 YOU VIEW BOX
I am always reluctant to step in on the ground floor of new tech preferring to wait until the glitches have been ironed out but took the plunge after reading other reviews and so far im glad I did.The humax dtr 1000 is easy enough to set up if you are used to dvd/vcr/satellite boxes etc just plug in your aerial cable and the supplied hdmi lead then connect to your internet modem/router again with the supplied cable plug in switch on and wait about 15 mins for initial set up to complete.Once thats done your up and running with all the usual freeview channels plus the on demand services from the main 4 broadcasters already watched the sweeney on itv player and ripper street in hd on bbc I player flawless playback and excellent picture quality especially in hd.The remote control is very slick/stylish and the navigation/epg is very intuitive. Also available is now tv a subscription based movie service from sky tv I havent used this feature yet.Its still early days and i havent checked out all the features available but so far so good and like all good ideas the simple ones seem the best I will update after a while.A quick word of praise for amazon customer service as always second to none this item was an exchangeproduct and I recieved this before I had returned the original unwanted item perfect service as alwaysmany thanks. So been using this product for a while now and should update my review, overall still pleased with this item though one or two flies in the ointment already touched on by prevoius reviews.Start up time seems to take forever actually about 3 minutes but seems longer, built in wifi would be nice my router is next to tv so no problem for me but if yours isnt you will need powerlink adaptors or similar, beware of any download limits set by your isp as watching the catch up channels can really eat up your allowance if you have one, One of the biggest disapointments for me was the 7day catch up service where you should be able to go forward 7 days to record any freeview programs or go back to watch again the forward part works fine but going back displays "not available" for well over 70% of the programs.Overall still pleased with this purchase although cant help feeling a mk2 wont be to far away to adress the issues raised aboveAnother update 2 years later and the box is all but unuseable,it seems im quite lucky becausemost reviews indicate problems after <6 months. Problems include constant freezing crashing requiringhard re set loss of sound or picture and buggy slow response to remote operation it seems the first line ofmy review was prophetic after all AVOID.
