Hello - yes Humans can hear it as well as animals. There is a volume control on the unit as well.

Is this able to be tuned to emit a screechy sound?

No. There are 7 recordings of predator/prey bird calls that you can choose from based on the pest bird you're trying to scare off. It plays the recording for 2 minutes followed by a 10 minutes "gap" ... then it repeats the 2 minute/10 minute cycle. I use #7 Miscellaneous because I'm trying to scare off sparrows and it's not the setting for the first 6.

Will it keep birds out of the blueberries?

This Bird-B-Gone Bird Chaser works great for averting birds from spacious open areas, covering up to 1 acre.

What type of sounds does this make?

IT makes different sounds of other animals birds a scared of a has 4 more out puts for additional speakers. Works great i have one on our back deck
