Five stars ! ?
On the face of it this series was awful, with some very poor scripts, I found a few scenes embarrassing to watch. No attempt seems to have been made to restore the 16mm film, so picture quality is not good.So why did I rate it five stars ?Well, as a package I enjoyed this boxed set very much, for me it's a guilty pleasure. It was worth buying for the special features, I watched these first and this made watching the series more interesting, putting it into context and perspective. Barry Morse gave an eloquent and amusing interview, and Stuart Damon has a very good story to tell. The passage of time ( it was interesting to be reminded how things looked c.1972 ), and location shooting in several european cities ( despite 16mm film rather than 35mm, this must still have been a very expensive T.V. series to make ), added to my viewing pleasure, along with spotting all the usual very good character actors of the time, the eclectic choice of G.M. vehicles, and Gene Barry's trousers.John Barry's theme tune is wonderful, and coupled with the main title montage, makes all current T.V. drama look dull.I.T.C. fans of a certain age may enjoy this boxed set as much as I did.

Great series with breath taking scenery views of the Pacific Islands
I loved this series in the mid 80's. Ollie Tobias reprises his role as Jack Vincent from "Smuggler". Jack has now been deported as a Smuggler and is bound for Norfolk Island a penal colony in the Pacific. Unfortunately, he is forced into mutiny due to the savage and sadistic treatment from the ship's captain, his own brother in law. Jack survives a shipwreck and the rest of the series sees him trying to outwit the Ship's Captain (who also survived) and elude capture and execution. Oliver Tobias is exceptionally goood as Jack Vincent; continuing and expanding upon his role as Jack Vincent in "Smuggler". Temuera Morrison is also great in his role as Maru; the son of a Moari Chieftain who is both Jack's friend and "master". This series was well written and every episode really enjoyable a "must" buy if you already have "Smuggler" on DVD. The scenery is also stunning. I highly recommend this series. P.S. do not confuse this with Gene Barry's series "The Adventurer" or you will be surely disappointed!

Smuggler sequal
Bought when I discovered this was a sequal to the smuggler, no doubt if you liked that series you will enjoy this one!

Disappointing
Having recently bought "Smuggler", which I enjoyed immensely, I thought I would try this follow-up series. Sadly, it was very much just a vehicle to carry on with the central character from that series. Whereas the stories in the earlier program were good adventure yarns, with likeable characters, "The Adventurer" became very dark, and the stories were slow and lacking any humour, populated by surly and unpleasant people. The Jack Vincent in the first series would surely never have been caught, and these tales never bothered to explain how it came to pass that he was. It was no more than okay if one had nothing else to do and could not sleep! I will undoubtedly watch episodes of "Smuggler" again, but I will not be bothering to keep the disc for the "Adventurer"

Splendid Example of 25 Minute Action Adventure!
A troubled shoot with the lead Gene Barry trying to get everybody over waist height fired, but it shines & is a testament to the Incorporated Television Company heyday. Fast exposition & fast editing that has sadly been lost on today's film-makers. I recommend this. I.T.C. virtually owned Elstree Studio's at the time and every British Star was knocking on the the door clambering to get on board. Highly recommended!

The Adventuer GREAT series!!!!!
I am a fan of Gene Barry I loved him in Murphy's Law so I had to get this. The series is good but the original master tapes need remastered. I am also a fan of Stuart Damon from the Champions, and General Hospital. Barry Morse I am a fan of from Space 1999, and the original Fugitive tv series. I like the DVD set but the final thing that bothers me Network did not release the series' in original broadcast order the series bounces back from episodes done in 1972 to 1973. I really think Gene Barry is cool.

The Adventurer
Excellent, old style detective inquirer, helps remembering forgotten times, sound is ok and for filmed episodes, the quality of the pictures are quite good.
