Great purchase and lots of fun to watch!
This feeder is awesome! Very well made, easy to hang, and the squirrels love it. It can be loud with the lid banging down. It wouldn't bother us, but our neighbors are another story. So my husband got some black rubber tubing ( about a half inch in diameter) he had and cut a slit down the side and we put it on the lower edge of where it slams down. Now it's silent and works perfectly. They love this thing. Hysterical when they go all the way inside and just grab something and run, but half the time they just stay in there for a bit. Lol. Too funny. For those who worry about them getting hit with the lid as they go in or out, it's not like that. They kinda "slither" in and out slowly and it never slams down on them either way. They just love it! We have a wooden privacy fence so we attached it to one of the post. It took them about 4 days to discover it, but ever since.....it's like clockwork. As soon as it's daylight, they are heading down the fence for breakfast. We currently have regulars (5 squirrels, 6 Blue Jays, plus the tiny birds). And they are all so happy that they don't even fight with each other anymore! Another reviewer made a great point about where you install it, and the fact that they can get trapped by a cat/dog. So mounting it where they can escape is a great idea. Our neighbors cat has sat under the feeder waiting, but the squirrels can scoot up the fence if needed. However there has not been an issue at all. It had rained here a few times and this has not deterred them at all from eating the food, so none of it was wet or spoiled at all.Great purchase! Might buy another one too. It's a great, well-made product! You will love it, and so will your yard buddies!

Great entertainment watching the squirrels explore it
We have a number of friendly squirrels who will come right up to our back door or jump up on our deck furniture to stare in the window. We decided a feeder would be nice to have during the winter so we don't let the heat out when we feed them and for times when we're away and unable to feed them at all. As I write this we've had the feeder for a bit under a week and it's been hilarious watching the squirrels explore it. Some of them figured it out quickly, while others still don't get it. They all immediately figured out that the little metal house contains peanuts, but some of them couldn't figure out how to get into it. They've peered in the window, climbed up on top, nosed around....today I saw one squirrel climb all the way inside, get a peanut, then climb back out with his meal. (We use unsalted peanuts with no shells. We do not use whole peanuts in the shell because of the mess it makes. We used to give them that type, and they love them, but we got tired of sweeping up peanut shells all the time and I imagine our neighbors didn't much appreciate finding peanut shells on their decks either. We live in a townhouse, so the squirrels are always running back and forth.) I have the feeder on our deck underneath the table and I can routinely hear the lid clanking open and shut when I work in the home office on the same side of the house. If I'm in a room on the front side I do not hear the lid. That's a bit reassuring because I wondered whether the neighbors would quickly get annoyed by the metal clank all the time. Still, be prepared for some noise if you buy this feeder. Squirrels don't move around much at night so you shouldn't expect problems with the lid keeping you awake, but you can expect fairly frequent noise from the lid slamming shut during the day.The other feeder we considered was the wooden one with the glass jar, but I decided on this one instead because I figured it would be a more durable design at withstanding bad weather.Either way, this is great fun to watch.By the way, the merchant shipped very quickly. The package came a week earlier than estimated.Review updated in late December 2013 to add: After a little over a month, the feeder is still in excellent condition. One of the squirrels who can't seem to figure out how to use it routinely starts scrabbling at the lid as if he can wear a hole in it or something. But no matter how much he scratches, his claws have not scratched nor damaged the paint in any way. This feeder is very well-built. The one change we've made was to put some foam-rubber insulating tape on the underside of the lid just because some mornings the clanking sound started to bug us a bit. I will have to keep a close eye on it to make sure none of our rodent friends eat the tape!Updated again on March 2, 2014: I replaced the foam tape last week due to it starting to fall off from squirrels bumping it when raising the lid. Feeder is still in excellent shape. There are a few scuff marks on the lid from squirrel teeth. Some of them persist in trying to use their mouths to raise the lid, which of course doesn't work because it drops back down when they let go. I will have to keep an eye on it to see if those marks rust, but I don't expect that to happen anytime soon. When I replaced the tape I also cleaned the feeder inside and out. Being able to remove the "windows" is a big help in this respect because you can scrub those separately. Some of the squirrels try to remain inside the feeder, especially on snowy days, and so I don't doubt the inside can get a bit unsanitary. Cleaning it was quite easy, though (using an old sponge we were ready to throw away!). You just lift the lid and scrub.Updated in January 2015: Last week I saw some movement outside on our deck near our squirrel feeder at night. Since squirrels don't move around much at night, I looked outside to see what was there and found a raccoon stealing peanuts. I chased it away and our feeder now comes inside at night (we put it on top of some paper towels for sanitary reasons).

Easy to use and long lasting
The squirrels and often the blue jays feast on peanuts in the shells and bring a smile to my face every day.

Looking for cheap entertainment?
The media could not be loaded. Well, not really cheap because this feeder is kind of pricy. But it sure is fun watching pesky squirrels. This feeder is very well made, heavy, and holds ton of peanuts. Definitely worth the price! Won’t let me add my video, unfortunately.

Fun, durable, and a pain to mount
This is durable and fun. The squirrels can get into it, without removing more than 1 peanut at a time. This allows the enjoyment of watching them to be spread out over a period of time.Mounting may be easier if you have a flat stump or a specifically designed pole for it. As it was for me, I had to try and mount it on a natural, thin trunk of a cut-down tree. It took a good amount of time to make sure it was solid. Despite that, the product itself is very durable, seems to keep water out well, and provides good enjoyment from the window.

Great squirrel feeder!
We love this squirrel feeder! It is well made out of steel and works remarkably well. I installed it on a 2 foot high post near a large tree. I've read some negative comments which I will address.Access: it does take a short while for squirrels to figure out how to lift the lid but they certainly have gotten the hang of it; you hear the "clunk" of the lid closing each time they grab a peanut. Perhaps lower IQ's in some parts of the country?Durability: I've had no problem with the hinges; they appear well made and well installed; Rust: the feeder is steel which will rust with time. The company has done a great job in painting the feeder to retard this process; I may need to spot repaint as the years go buy but unless they were to make it out of stainless steel, copper, plastic {no good} or titanium, rust occurs. Aluminum could be used but the lid would be too light and painting aluminum well is a more involved process. All in all, a really well thought out design that is well built & substantial, that both the squirrels and we have most enjoyed!
