Presto 06857 16-inch Electric Foldaway Skillet, Black

This is a great kitchen appliance, one that I have been missing for a while since my last one (not this brand/model) was destroyed by my ex-wife (hint to the reader or spouses thereof - don't leave these things sitting overnight soaking in water. It's really not good for the skillet or the marriage). This was the first thing I bought after our divorce - okay, just kidding, we didn't divorce, but she did destroy it that way, and the instructions tell you not to do that. Wait until it is cool, then gently clean with soap and water - I was very guilty with our last one of not waiting until it was cool. I know this isn't supposed to be an instructional review on cleaning, but this is key to the skillet actually lasting a long time. People often kill their skillets by cleaning them incorrectly, or using metal utensils on the surface. Read the instructions. Functionally, it is great. I like that it can fold into a small space, but I agree with other reviewers that putting the handles inside of the base is asking for a scraped-up surface. I put a dishcloth between the two for a while (and cautioned the wife to do the same), but have now given up on storing it folded up - dishcloths aren't always handy. Seems to heat pretty evenly to me, and the pour spout is definitely helpful since it doesn't drip back on itself down the side when you use it. I haven't noticed a catastrophic loss of heat through the drain spout, but I am not trying to use it as a steamer. I find it nice to be able to remove the top without having a killer puff of steam lounging at you, followed by splattering oil as the water from the top drips down into the skillet. There is still some buildup, but the spout helps reduce that. Looks nice, large cooking area (great for my big family), easy to clean - it's a winner. I've had to use the cast iron skillet since the last electric skillet broke, and this is infinitely easier to cook with (to me - others may disagree and say I just need to learn how to use a cast iron skillet). It was a long, rough road without it, but she's back now along with the joy of cooking. :)

This electric skillet is amazing. It heats up quickly and provides a nice even heat level in the pan. The non stick lining is super right out of the box. I have cooked several breakfast including eggs and sausage and pancakes as well as dinner with pork chops and steak. I also made fried rice using the skillet as a wok. I love that the bottom detaches and stores inside the skillet. This makes it so easy to store. The glass lid is nice and thick and really helps keep the heat and steam inside the skillet. It’s large enough to easily cook dinner for a family of 5. I did some research before purchasing this and I’m glad I spent the little extra money to get this one from Presto. It’s a name brand that you can trust. As far as how long the nonstick will hold up is only a matter of time. Just make sure to use silicone utensils and nothing metal. Truly a must have for any family and worth its cost.

This is a decent skillet, and it should be, considering that over the past six years I've purchased it six times (five for me, one for my sister's house for when I'm there and need to cook). This averages out to be replaced roughly once per year, as the non-stick surface eventually wears off despite my only using plastic or silicone spatulas. It is my primary skillet for frying things, so I use it at least once per week. The cost is low enough that I don't mind replacing it yearly, considering how convenient it is to use, clean and store. Having said that, do not believe what you may read in the comments because THIS IS NOT DISHWASHER SAFE. I bought my first dishwasher late last year and have been washing this skillet in there regularly. After a while, I noticed that my fingers were turning black when I picked it up after washing or from the top of the refrigerator where I store it between uses. I assumed it was because of the dishwasher, but hey, the comments and Amazon said it was dishwasher safe, so I assumed it was just nearing the end of its life. Nope. The instructions that come inside the package specifically state that not only is the skillet NOT dishwasher safe, but if you clean it in one, you may end up with a grey powder on the bottom due to the detergent. So, overall, this is a satisfactory electric skillet that is super easy to clean (even by hand) and even better, super easy to store as all the pieces fit together when putting it away. However, I'm docking it one star for not being dishwasher safe this far into the 21st century.

This is a fantastic product. This is my second. After 4 years of using the previous one almost daily. Makes the best scrambled eggs. The non stick is great. I have made fried chicken. Fried zucchini. Grilled cheese sandwiches. Turns out fantastic.cleans up easily.Very Highly recommended!!

The base fits nicely inside the skillet and with the lid on top it takes up less room to store then my old skillet because it isn’t awkward shaped. I highly recommend this skillet because it’s nonstick, deep and stores nicely

This is the second one I've bought over the years. Works great and I love how it collapses for storage Only reason I'm replacing is because of nonstick wearing off

Not for Indian kitchen

I have owned many electric frying pans over the years, all coated, even one coated in ceramic and this appliance is the best one I have ever purchased. I love the large size. The ability to take it from its stand and put it in the top of the dishwasher is A-Mazing! I love the rounded edges. And even better than the ease and aesthetics, is how evenly it cooks. Most Pam's seem to get really hot where the elements are but this one seems to be hot equally everywhere. And I have now had it for a few months and with almost daily use the pan looks perfect and you cannot see where the elements even are (some of the ones I owned in the past discoloured quickly where the elements are. All on all I would highly recommend this pan.

Love this electric skillet! Needed it to cook on the road at hotels and this skillet lived up to the task. Loved that the base detaches to make clean up super easy and low profile storage. The pour spout is a great feature for draining out liquids. The heat is amazing and distributed evenly. We were able to boil water and cook pasta in it.
