Do your bit for the environment.
A very environmentally useful product. I wish the wormery had transparent sides to see the worms in action. The worms produced much liquid feed for the garden and annually an amount of compost material. My original wormery lasted 6 years before the hinges went and the tap seal began to crack. Not sure whether I feel this is therefore good value for money.

Difficult
Very hard to keep the worms going.

Failure
We failed to get much liquid feed from this wormery due to the perpetual clogging of the 'filter' tray at the bottom. After two years and a lot of patience we have given up with it and tipped all the soggy compost into our normal compost bin. Newspaper, cardboard etc failed to absorb the wetness in the soil which could not drip through the holes in the tray because they blocked up so quickly. We are very disappointed with the product and would never recommend it to anyone.

The tray composters are vastly better
I've had one of these, and also a tray-based system. Though not without their own faults, the trays are much better.First of all, these are well built. Mine is probably 20 years old and still in one piece. No complaints in that regard. It's also quite good at producing 'worm tea'.However, there are several issues regarding the design that make it difficult to use.First of all, you need to raise the bin - for example on bricks as is shown in the images. Not a big problem, but the bin gets very heavy as it's used and I'd be cautious about simply balancing it on a couple of bricks as shown. You will need something reasonably steady - I use a milk crate. The reason it needs to be raised is that otherwise there is too little clearance under the tap to e.g. put a watering can or bottle underneath. The tray-based systems typically have a built-in stand. The larger issue is that getting the compost is an enormous hassle. First of all, you need to wait a long time - the bin has a large volume and the waste you put in will reduce hugely in volume. Unlike the tray systems where you might be removing a tray of compost every couple of months, you probably won't empty this until a year or two have passed. Then the act of emptying it is hard - the bin will be exceptionally heavy and isn't readily moved, so you'll be up-ending it where it is (e.g. onto a tarpaulin on the patio). When you do, you'll have a mixture of fairly wet compost, items that haven't properly broken down, and worms. Particularly if you want to retain your worms, you're going to spend an unpleasant time picking through the compost. In contrast, the tray-based systems allow the worms to move up through the trays as each layer is completely composted, so that when you remove the oldest layer it will already be largely worm-free. The tray won't be overly heavy, and is smaller in volume so it's easy to remove uncompensated items and add them to a higher level, as well as removing the compost to somewhere more convenient. The tray-based systems are easier to use in almost every way, and you can run them continuously, continuously generating compost. I can't recommend these single bin systems over the trays.

Good idea some problems
I got this wormery as a present from a neighbour who was moving. I worked perfectly for him, but the process of moving it must have clogged the filter as now it just drips the occasional liquid. The worms seem happy however and they do keep eating the kitchen waste. I am going to trade it in for one with trays so that I will be able to physically clean the filters. I did that on this one once. I dug everything out and then put it back in but it only lasted briefly. I think they have to redesign the filter part.

I have previously composted all garden waste, peelings etc
I have previously composted all garden waste, peelings etc. but decided to try an original wormery due to lack of garden space. I have had it for several months, worms disappeared in spite of following instructions. Asked for advice and received none. My compost bins were full of worms producing good quality compost so will be returning to this method which is cheaper and easier, and works.
