Quality device that adds all sorts of usefullness to your HA
Not sure why this device isn't more popular!I used one of these initially with OpenHAB before I eventually migrated to Home Assistant. Pairing was simple and the device is quick and responsive sending commands. Both OpenHAB and Home Assistant work great with it, although some additional configuration is needed for Home Assistant. You can locate the device-specific configuration file change needed in HA's documentation. Once done, the central scene commands are relayed properly to the engine. With compatibility out of the way, the function itself is great. Each button is capable of 3 separate actions: press, hold, and release. This ultimately becomes 2 actions, as the release function would be used to stop a command started by the hold command (like dimming lights or cycling colors, etc.). That gives you 8 programmable actions in a very compact, wireless device. Not bad! It would be great if they had double-tap or even triple-tap commands, but for the price point, it's seriously hard to beat.Visually they look great, and build quality is fantastic for what it is. I use these as bed-side controls on either nightstand to supplement the wall-mounted scene controller to keep from having to break out the phone or Harmony remote for basic things like lights, fan and night/morning scripted routines.I haven't experienced any of the battery status issues indicated by other reviews, so all in all this has been an excellent purchase. I purchased one about a year ago and a 2nd one a month ago. The original was charged randomly perhaps 6 months ago, but only as a preventative measure. That battery holds up swimmingly and hasn't run out or had any issues.I hope to see more from Hank, as these beat Aeotec in the price department for the same functionality. A+!

Nice device - working with OpenHAB
This device is working very nicely for me with OpenHAB. I was a little surprised that it needed to be re-charged after about a month when I only use it a couple times a day to turn on/off the outside house and barn lights, but at least it IS rechargeable (and is as easy as plugging into micro-USB). I am using a combination of single-press and long-press to get on/off for 4 groups of lights. (I set long-press = ON to prevent the cat from turn the lights on)

Poor QA and somewhat strange design decisions, but it functions
I ordered the 4-button version of this controller to use with a Vera Plus and HomeAssistant. I'll split the review into 2 sections, product design and product functionality:Product Design------------------There are some serious concerns around the design of this scene controller. As others have stated, you must bend the battery contacts in order to get the battery to charge and the device to operate on the battery. My best guess is that the contacts are designed in such a way that having the battery in the device for long periods, along with the shaking that comes with shipping, causes the contacts to bend to the point that they no longer work as intended. This issue was easily fixed with some quick bending of the contacts. The other item that I haven't really seen anyone comment on is the strange decision regarding the button labels. If you are using the scene controller as a loose item, it's not an issue, but if you want to mount the controller on the wall, it becomes a choice with no good option. The way the controller is designed, the labels on the buttons are only correct if the USB port is facing up. This strikes me as strange, since when you put the back piece on, the text is upright with the USB port facing down. It's almost as if they couldn't choose which side should be "up". Unfortunately if you're mounting it on the wall, you get one of two choices:1. Mount it with the USB port down, which allows for easy charging and hides the ugly USB port where you don't see it all the time. This leaves you with the button labels all upside down, which is not an issue for 3 of the 4 buttons, but the label of the two people is now incorrect.2. Mount it with the USB port up, which is ugly and has a USB cable sticking out of the top of the unit if you have it plugged in. The only advantage here is that all the button labels are right side up, and you don't have people constantly commenting "Hey, do you realize you hung this upside down?"Overall, the design is a bit strange, and as others have stated, the instructions are par for the course for something that was put together quickly somewhere in Asia.Product Functionality-------------------------Once the design issues are overcome, this seems to function exactly as it should. I have the ability to set 8 different actions, based on 4 buttons and 2 actions per button (press, hold). The communication is fast and reliable, and I've not really had any problems at all with the functionality. I can't comment on the battery life of the unit, but this is of minimal concern to me, as my current setup has the controller wall-mounted with permanent USB hookups.Overall----------Since the only real issues I've found are with the design, and are minimal and easily fixed, I would give this 4 stars.

Excellente surprise
