Need To Solve Strut Problem
This came in four very heavy boxes (100+#), and instructions were mostly pictures with part numbers identified and arrows pointing to where they go. This was ok because the small bits that were written were somewhat confusing. We did get it put together over a few days. It definitely takes two people (3 would be better) to get some of the assembled sections lifted to where they need to be.The problem with this unit is that the struts are too strong and when you pull the bed down, its feet won’t stay on the floor (they remain about 2.5 feet off the ground). If you sit on the bed, it goes down, but as soon as you get up, it springs back up. Then, when the bed is pulled up to be stowed in the cabinet, it drifts out about 1.5 feet, so it won’t stay closed. The seller’s phone number didn’t work and their website wouldn’t come up, so they have no customer support. We were hoping they would have replacement struts or a solution for this problem.I looked at reviews from others who had purchased this bed from other vendors and some had the same problem. One person took off one of the struts and overcame the problem of the bed not staying down.Amazon was great in offering solutions of replacement or return, but taking the bed apart to return it would be a job and I don’t think we could ever get the parts stacked and packaged to send it back. We couldn’t find replacement or adjustable struts, because we are convinced they are the problem. Hubby is a retired engineer, and in his world there is isn’t a problem that doesn’t have a solution, so we began brainstorming. We decided to find a way to add some weight to the foot of the bed frame, and found that adding about 30 pounds would work. We kicked around several options that might accomplish this. I am currently sewing two sandbags that are about 9”Wx23”Lx1.25”H with channels to stabilize the sand and these will be placed between the slats that support the mattress and the underside of the front panels. Each sandbag will hold about 15 pounds of sand. I hope this plan works and I’ll report back with the results.I’m giving this item 3 stars because this isn’t a simple problem to fix and it will take effort to do. However, the bed does look great and the fit and finish of the assembled bed is nice.
