The Return of a Classic
Originally released in 2008, Tales of Vesperia only came to North America on the Xbox 360 console. Unfortunately, it did not have the "full" version like its Playstation 3 counterpart, which included two playable characters and some extra content. After a World Premier during the Xbox Conference at E3 2018, it was revealed that the Definitive Edition was on its way to multiple platforms! Primarily, the Playstation 3 version of it.The Definitive Edition, a remastered version of its original release, is an absolute welcome to this generation of consoles! Personally, I never finished the game on the Xbox 360 console a decade ago, but I'm happy to have another opportunity to do so. Unlike most RPG's, the combat system is in real-time, so you won't be stuck waiting for your turn like in traditional turn-based battles. Four characters take the screen in battle, and you can mix and match who you want depending on who's in your party and you don't have to be stuck fighting as the main protagonist of the game, you can fight as who you want! It's the only part of the game where three of your buddies can join in on the fight if you don't want to count on the computers. The battle system has more in-depth strategies, so you'll have to play and see for yourself as the story goes on a bit further. The story, characters... I can't tell you enough - Yuri, the main protagonist, is probably the most badass character in the Tales series. The guy has some bite! The interactions between characters (also via the Character Skit) is absolutely entertaining. They engage in conversation a LOT, so it can be good or bad depending on your patience, but if you're a lover of JRPG's you should be able to tolerate it! The story isn't groundbreaking, it's as what most 'Tales of' games are. What is it like? I'm not saying, I'm not spoiling anything. ;)All in all, I've failed to write a COMPLETE review of the game, however, I'm still playing and trying to finish it as I'm writing this. If you're already a fan of the 'Tales of' series, this is truly the last game (I believe) that has the traditional Overworld freedom to explore the map. The titles that released afterwards either have a town selection box or interconnected levels of fields to run through. I think, Tales of Vesperia is the last one to keep hold of its old formula before branching off like the way Xillia, Zestiria and Berseria did. Don't get me wrong, I think they're all great games in their own right. Vesperia, however, has a special place in my heart... along with Abyss and Symphonia.

10 Years for XBOX Exclusivity to release... and worth it
Almost 10 years to the day since the initial release in XBOX's era of trying to build an RPG foothold in Japan which inevitably failed, we finally got the complete edition of this game. Patty wasn't a necessary addition, but she was enough of one that it truly gave the characters another angle from which to observe the world in a fun way. For me there is something about knowing that I am not getting the full experience which is a deal breaker, so I purchased Vesperia for XBOX360 and never played it, several times wanting to start but the feeling of knowing I simply had a knowingly incomplete version just stopped me. And my patience paid off because there is a good reason this one is a favorite.I do not give specifics, I simply say it's easily one of the better RPGs period out there, it is of course a JRPG so expect brighter colors and overarching bad and good threaded through everything, however this is the first time I can think of where an older protagonist is utilized, and this as far as I'm concerned is proof they should not be afraid to do it more often. They stepped into darker character territory and rightfully so since Yuri at his age will have a far less dichotomous view of the world compared to a teenager generally.A wonderful experience, platinumed the game to sort of complete that 10-year gap in my head so-to-speak, because it was worth a second playthrough and to break through that stigma that it as something from 10 years ago that I couldn't bring myself to complete. So now I got the complete experience and would recommend it to anyone who wants a moderately cerebral game combined with bright colors, fun characters, good voicing in Japanese as one might expect, and a well built world and lore.

Excellent Game Worth Owning. If you're an RPG fan, buy this game.
I originally purchased this game way back in 2008 when it first came out for XBOX 360. I loved it back then and I love it now. It is a JRPG with an amazing storyline and awesome characters with an addicting battle system. Yes, it is true that there are two voice actors for the main character due to Troy Baker not being able to reprise his role for all of the added dialogue. But it doesn't lower the quality of the game. Also to all of the morons out there leaving bad reviews because your game was damaged during shipping: Stop. This is a review forum for the quality of the game, not for your personal shopping experience through Amazon. If your game was damaged during shipping, please contact customer service and don't leave a bad review. It isn't an accurate representation of the game itself.

I bought Tales of Vesperia - Definitive Edition game for my PS4 and working fine. I was surprise that ShopQSI is very near to my city in same NC state. Great seller! A++++ :-)Look like same like from Tales of Symphonia. That's my favorite kind of game! I have old Tales of Symphonia games for my Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo Wii. Very fun games and take many hours spent on it. I love all. Must buy if you are fans of Tales of Synphonia and other Tales games.I will look forward to Tales of Arise for my PC and PS4. :-)

Definitely the best version of the game available.
I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the Tales series of games. I genuinely love some of them and others I only find so-so. A couple I don't like at all. This was definitely one I put in the so-so category. I own both the original and this remake. If you are going to play this game, the remake is the way to go. The extra character and content do improve the game quite a bit. However, there are other far more enjoyable Tales games to be had. If you've never played a tales game, start with Tales of Eternia, Tales of Graces F or Tales of Symphnia. Then move on to this one when you've gotten your feet wet and know you like Tales games.
